Hi,

I admit it: my ZI fell out of a bag and hit the concret hard:bang: :bang: :bang:
Now i know how a misaligned Rangefinder looks like😱

So I contacted my dealer (Photo Village) to ask for advice where to get the camera serviced. Rich emailed me back right away with his recommendation for servicing ( Nippon Photoclinic, Inc). In addition I emailed Essex Camera in NJ. Both replied very quickly and quoted the same ballpark price for adjusting the rangefinder.

So in the real world it seems to be very easy to get the camera serviced!
I will report future developments.

BTW I started a new thread to not get information lost in "paranoia", which, with a little research. could have been avoided.

Thanks!
I am still traumatized.

Still makes me realize how much I miss the ZI

Nothing major.
The body does have three marks of impact scratched paint, really harder to see than to feel. No dings.
The lens, a 35 summicron asph, has a few marks on the plastic shade rim nothing else.
I still took a lot of pictures afterwards with just guessing the distance (flash back to those Minox days ;-) ).
I was very impressed with the sturdiness and relieability of the camera.
So just ego and cosmetic damage.......really marks of honor.;-)

Very cool 😀 err... sorry to hear about the accident, but good to know that the camera has potential not to shatter when it hits concrete, and that it can be fixed!

Mine got dragged down the side of Diamond Head back in November when I slid down to go home for the night (main entrance was closed so me and those giving me the tour, uhm, found another way up 😀)

I think that the ZI is much more robust than people give it credit for.
It is my everyday camera and no complaints whatsoever.

i agree. one of mine is covered in a zing case (thanks again chris) at the bottom of my backpack/daybag.
no problems so far.

i have to say, this past sunday while shooting in the house, i had no case or grip on the camera and it was a pure joy to hold and work with. in fact it was as pleasurable an experience as shooting with the m3 and i thought that camera was a dream.

Thanks to Joerg for sharing with us his experiences. If it turns out that the rangefinder calibration of the ZI is already known by the repair guys, then there are no more fears for getting into a system that is not well known, documented, etc

Ok time for an update.
I send the camera Jan 15th to nippon photo clinic in NYC.
Yesterday, Jan 23rd, they called that the camera is ready to ship. it needed vertical and horizontal rangefinder adjustment ;-(. Well it was a tough landing....
The camera is in the hands of UPS now.....

hi,

focus seems to be spot on when tested with various lenses.
Actual pics will tell about the quality of work.
So for $100 ballpark you can get your Zeiss Ikon rangefinder serviced.
Hope that puts all doubts to a rest.

Thanks Peter!
I will try to snap a few pics and get them developed before leaving on a short trip next week. But the ZI is in the travel plans again.
I have a good feeling about it!

Hi,
I hope the last update:
I got my first roll back, available light at 1.2-2-8 with a 50mm lens and focus is as spot on as I am able to focus.

So now I can drop the camera again......
