Zipshot anyone?

Thats interesting. It seems to use the same idea as aluminium tent poles with elastic inside. No-one is going to try a 10"x8" on it, but it might be a hit for people walking about with the point-and-shoot sized cameras. It looks to have a proper ball-head on it too, which is even slightly surprising.

Tripods need a certain rigidity and weight to be really useful. I guess it might be better than nothing, but with any wind at all, this is going to be pretty much useless.

I wouldn't try it unless you're using a P&S. And even then it'll be awkward. Always use a tripod heavier than you think you're going to need. I purchased a lightweight tripod setup that had a maximum weight capacity of about 8 lbs. I figured it would be fine since the Leica and lens weight about 2lbs. But it was wobbly. So I returned it and got something heavier rated at about 20lbs. It only weighs a bit more than the lightweight version. But it is so much more rigid and stable. And those are qualities you want in a tripod. Tent poles seem like they could easily be knocked over. You're better off going with a monopod.

Well, I have been having some of the same thoughts as you guys. Still it might be worth considering. I usually carry one of those "tie-around-a-tree-or-traffic sign-tripods" when I am out hiking, and there never seems to be a tree or a traffic sign around, when I need one 😀

Just would have been nice if someone had actually tried it. Then again, it is not so expensive, so I might test it myself and report back - unless somebody beats me to it...
