After several years rangefinderless after selling my Bessa R, I've finally bought what I have long regarded as the best looking camera ever made, a Zorki 10, after years of haranguing over the shortcomings. Well, they aren't insurmountable, but they aren't ideal.
The selenium cell is dead, and I doubt replaceable without skill I do not possess. The automatic exposure, therefore, does not work. However, it still has a mechanical 1/30 x-sync speed, and a manually adjustable aperture, and functional rangefinder. The rangefinder has certainly dimmed, and the viewfinder isn't crystal clear, but it works fine with the 45mm's forgiving nature for cropping. The controls being mounted on the lens such as they are is not very convenient, as the aperture and syn switches are easily hit while depressing the shutter, which can cause the release to hang.
The film advance, however, is quite nice, being and underbody swing. I had a few frame spacing issues on this test roll, but they were due to not winding completely, which was from the case obstructing the action (quickly got rid of it).
According the the manual I am currently using it in a manner that is supposed to accompany a flash unit, but I have no idea what flashes I could use. Any advice would be appreciated, as I very much like this camera despite its flaws, and though it would make a good one (hefty), I would like it to be more than a paperweight.
