Zorki 3 reliable?

I`ve only had mine (from Fedka) a few days and have shot a few rolls with it plus exercising the shutter thru all speeds maybe 6-8 times I can say I have not experienced a glitch or hangup whatsoever. Changing speeds are smooth and precise and all speeds appear to be spot on or close enough according to my test exposures.

The slow speeds , and all other speeds for that matter do indeed feel just as solid as on the single integrated speed dial on the top of my Zorky 3C .(recently sold)
I was a bit apprehensive about getting the Z-3 but so far I see no basis for the worry. IMO this camera is build is tough as a tank and it really is a pure joy to hold and use. It`s no lightweight either.
I have a 3M on it`s way to me too but the Z-3 is the one that is really unique and the one I had to have but between the both of them and my 2 Kievs I shouldn`t (hope) to be wearing any of them out too soon.

Actually the slow speeds on the front of my Leica IIIf don`t feel any better especially since it gets stuck in place on occasion. I have to play with it to free it .
Of course this is usually about whether the camera was serviced and or CLA`d.

What condition did fedka list yours as? I'm trying to evaluate what their standard for "good" condition is.

If Yuri B. (Fedka) says it is good , he is being conservative. Of course I can only speak from my own experiences with him.

The Zorki 3 has a reputation for being unreliable. This has been discussed on here before and several members said they owned one and had no trouble. I guess with any camera of that age there are bound to be problems, it's partly down to luck what you get. Saying that, if it's serviced properly (like most probably haven't been) it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, thats how I feel . Not too many of these cameras were bought to put on the shelf to look at and if by chance they did, the smoke , grease , and dust alone has to affect the functionality let alone any use it got.
Any sign of malfunction from mine and I will send it off for servicing . It`s not as easily replaceable as one of my Kievs and unless it`s a simple fix I`m not gonna touch it myself.

I hope the Droug and Leningrad I bought will also work as good as this Z-3 does but that would be asking a lot and pushing my good fortune.

I have bought two bodies from Yuri, I think they were excellent minus. I asked him when selecting cameras to do so with an eye towards performance. So, he is able to select from outside the confines of general modifiers of condition. Both bodies I received seemed great and solid, enough so that I knew I enjoyed working with them. At that point I sent them in for a CLA—out on a Wednesday, across the country and back on Friday the following week. Now both Fed-2s are really smooth, working I believe at their best. I am confident that the service will contribute directly to their reliability.

I have really enjoyed Fedka's fine service. The company also offers a 10-day inspection period.

Hello Semushkin,

I do love the uniqueness of it mostly , and certainly there is nothing not to like about it . The proportions are excellent and it fits my hand nicely. A very good user indeed.
But the Kievs are so different that any comparison would be apples to oranges. Positive points can be made for both and having used them I really couldn`t say which one I like more since all my cameras work as they should.
Today I think I`ll load one of the Kievs. I like to alternate the use of my cameras.

I love the proportions and the build quality of the Zorki-3M. How is the framing in your Zorki-3 by the way? This is the only quibble with my 3m.

Incidentally is it larger than your Leica IIIf?

Not sure what you are referring to (larger) but size wise the Z-3 is higher, and heavier than the Leica .

My Z-3M hasn`t arrived yet but I understand it is identical in size to the Z-3 and I assume framing is also the same? Side by side with my Zorki 4 it`s framing is very much the same and since I don`t have the Leica anymore I can`t be absolutely certain how it compares but I hated the leica VF so I`d have to say the Zorki is an improvement.
But I`m surprised that the Zorki VF is noticeably brighter than the Kievs , although the Kievs focussing in low light is much easier to see and align the focus patch .
Seems to be somewhat competitive and no clear winner. Maybe a personal user issue.
