Well-known
It's been quite a while since I've been around here, but I would like to share this. As it will help many of us.
Some of you may know this yet, but some (including me) did not. For those like me who like to do their own service on Zorkis. I would like to share this.
I discovered this servicing a Zorki 4, while measuring and adjusting the speeds. The camera is very accurate now, including its slow speeds. I found out that the speed of 1/60 (1/50 on older models) isn't driven by the slow speeds mechanism at all as often stated.
This is what I concluded.
– even when the speed is set to 1/60 and the slow speeds are wound, it's mechanism won't lock the second curtain. And when it does, this speed will run more like 1/8 of a second making the speed of 1/125 inaccessible.
– when the selector is lifted on the dial for 1/60, only the lower half of the nut on the speed selector will hit the lever that holds the second curtain for the fast speeds. Making a greater with on the slit and thus a speed of 1/60 is achieved. The upper half will hit the lever earlier for all speeds like 1/125 and faster.
– when you unscrew the great dial, you can find the right position for the speed of 1/8. If both 1 second and 1/8 of a second run well, so will the others.
I hope this is helpful to you, please feel free to question and discuss.
With kind regards,
Milo Schekkerman
