I have just aquired a Zorki 4 that came without the detachable take up spool. I have a Fed 5c which I do not plan to use and wonder if it is possible to remove the fixed spool from that and install it on the Z4 - either that or a cheap source of Z4 spools.

you can just use the plastic spool from an empty film canister - you'll have to notch the short end of the shaft with a utility knife so that it will engage the gear poking down from the top of the compartment.
Search around with google - I remember seeing a picture on some web page.

Thank you, I will try it.

I don't think that works for the Zorkis. That worked for the Kievs though. For a take up spool, you might have to buy one or make one yourself. The Z4's takeup is hollow on the end that fits into the camera's take up spool holder.

The Zorki take up reel falls out on my 4. So i wrapped the take up reel shaft with a small amount of electrical tape, just enough to provide friction, enough friction to keep the reel from coming loose.

A very good idea, and cheap too.
