I have a problem with one of my Zorki-4 cameras. When I tilt the camera one way or the other the image in the viewfinder jumps. I think it is probably something with the adjustable diopter. The image in the viewfinder doesn't degrade when this happens. The camera is a great shooter and gives great images on XP2. I am a suscriber to the philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Any thoughts?

Good philosophy! If it is the diopter lens, and you are good with tools and small mechanisms, it's not too hard to fix. From memory the lens is held in a thin metal frame with the edges folded over to retain the lens. The folded edges were probably not folded firmly enough. If you tackle it be careful not to squeeze the edges in too hard or you can crack the diopter lens. It could also be the whole diopter lens and mount moving.

I pulled mine apart once to try to get the diopter lens to travel further, for more correction. No luck.

BTW, has anyone said, "Welcome to the forum"? You must have popped up when everyone was busy!

Thanks for the welcome, Chris. I have been registered on RFF for a few months, but haven't posted before. After I got my Bessa (first rangerfinder in a long time), I was bitten by the FSU bug: 5 Zorki-4s, 1 FED-2. The only FSU item I bought that is not in working condition was an 85mm lens. It mounts on a LTM body, but will not focus to infinity. The FED was in really good shape - just needed the usual cleaning. I really like the feel of the FED for the most part. The Zorki-4 ergonomics seem a bit better to me, especially the shutter release, which feels too low on the FED. I like the brighter veiwfinder of the Zorki better. I may leave the diopter alone for a while or until it really begins to irritate me. I have a couple of the later non engraved Zorki-4s that may turn into repair practice cameras and parts donors.
