So, got a 4k from ukraine/ebay. All appeared clean, and sounded good. Dry firing and operation good, including engaging rewind and ensuring the sprocket freed up. Put film in. 4 or 5 shots in, something jammed, and film tore. When I tried to rewind, sprocket wouldn't release. I had to take the back off and sacrifice the roll.

In short, everything seems to operates freely, except that a jam occurred and now it won't engage rewinding properly.

So, before I dive into taking it apart, any suggestions as to where to start looking for this? I've read the 4K-DIY. I'd rather not pull it all apart if I don't have to.

Of course, there is OK Camera......

The CLA thread will guide you on the rewind-release parts if you want to tackle it yourself. It's a bit of a strange fault to visualise, since the rewind mode involves pushing down a rod in the active sense, whereas returning to advance mode relies on a spring pushing things back. Hence, the usual problem with gummed up works is the opposite - it won't return to advance mode.

If you do tackle it yourself, you might be lucky and just cleaning the relevant parts and flushing the sprocket out will sort things. Obviously, from the CLA thread you won't have to go much beyond removing the top cover and there's a lot in there you can disregard. If that fails to work, it's a major strip-down to get at those parts in detail, I'm afraid.

EDIT: Part 4 is the relevant part of the CLA thread.

Thanks. I'm really hoping that it's just film scraps from damaged sprocket holes in the film when it jammed. I can see part of the mechanism pushing down -- perhaps it can't reach far enough. Anyway, I'll see how things look tonight.

Hoo haa
Ref your picture 29.
There was a piece of film jammed in the groove (with the arrow) preventing a full turn of the mechanism.
Took it out and all is well!!!

Thanks for the article!!
