The parcel arrived, i had film poised and ready to go, but imaging the frustration when i noticed the take up spool missing, (that will teach me to buy on ebay). Can any one advise on a palace for spares, there is a few Zorki 4's for spares on ebay but i think the spool is different?

You can made your own by using the one from an empty film canister, modifying it a little.
but buying in US would be easy according to this: http://cgi.ebay.com.my/LOT-OF-3-TAK...hash=item250378886572&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177
Indeed there are different spools, first they produced metal ones with a clip, later plastic ones with a clip and the last model is the plastic one without a clip. You can use them all in the Z4

The spool on a 4K is meant to be non-removable and is not like any spool on the Zorki-4. It is screwed on to the winding mechanism, whereas Zorki-4 spools are push fitted.

Are you sure? The spool on a 4K looks like it should be something more substantial but it is just a simple cylinder with a slot for the film leader. If it is really missing there will be absolutely nothing on the right hand side of the camera when you open it.

Yes, there is nothing on the right side to take up film at all

The 4k has a fixed spool, as others have pointed out. If you remove it there are several parts to it, not just the spool itself. Pic attached shows them.
Unfortunately, removing the spool means the gears and ratchet above may all fall apart too, inside the top cover. Which parts do you need? I have a "junker" 4k so if you PM me I'll send them to you if you want.

In additon, start a PayPal dispute, on a faulty / incomplete item. More effective than an eBay dispute. Ask for a partial refund, you're entitled to it and I'm pretty sure that it will be granted, if you can word the problem well enough for the non-photographing, digital-age PayPal employee.

Big thanks Ron.
Sorry I misread the title, thought it was the plain 4. The others are right on the 4K, it is fixed with a screwed pin.

A thank-you to all your advice, I have started the appropriate actions, and with a little improvisation have made what i hope will be an effective alternative.

1. If push comes to shove, you could probably email Yuri at www.fedka.com, explain the situation, and see if he can help.
2. It seems to me that all subscribers to these forums ought to include their location in their profile. Some, do, and some don't. It might help, since information might not be correct for foreign countries.
