zorki 4k with strap lugs.
how difficult/dangerous would it be to drill holes into the camera body? has anybody of the forum members here done anything similar?
cheers,
tomislav

I gave my Zorki 4 just one lug - for a handstrap.
It's not difficult. Remove the shell, drill a hole, use some quality strong 2-part cement, find something to use as the strap-lug, cement it in.
You have to do it precisely, because you're risking dropping your camera on ground (I mean concrete, asphalt, dirt...)

not difficult at all, I did this on my Fed 5c.
I placed the lugs on the upper corners of the sides of the removable back, so if the camera ever dies , the back can be used on an other Fed 5.
Lugs can be fashioned from very small bolts if you are handy with a file, hacksaw and a hand drill.
Drilling and tapping the sides of the camera back is all that is needed to fit these lugs, and a small drop of crazy glue on the threads of the lugs before you screw them in, insures the they will never come out.

If you didn't want to do it yourself, this may interest you:

I haven't used his service so I can't offer any opinion about it/him.
I like xayraa33's placement, seems like the camera would hang better.

Hi,
I just swap a Zorki 4's case with a Zorki 4K. My worn Z-4 cost me only $15. My Zorki 4K is unique that it has an engraved speed dial. Zorki 4K made before 1974 might have this speed dial with engraved numbers.

Zhang

I also gave my Zorki4 a single wrist strap by drilling a hole through the side of the top cover. Finishing could be better, but it's working and strong enough (I think).
Never used it a lot though, because not very long after this operation, I obtained a Zorki1 and when I put it next to the Zorki4, it stunned me how huge and dead ugly this camera is. Love is over and as a matter of fact, it's now waiting in a box for me to have some time to put it on ebay (or maybe on the classifieds section of RFF - the flash sync is not OK, but it comes with an everready case and an industar 22).

好的!
that's another idea, of course -- it had crossed my mind, but i wasn't sure if i should do it: i had namely exchanged the speed dials, so now my z4k has engraved dials, but along the way i must have messed up the shutter speeds, so i will have to mail the camera to oleg sometime soon. i have the cyrillic version, which i have seen a few times now, but last year when i bought it, it was only the second time that i came across one, so i snatched it.
apart from that, it's in near mint condition, and i like the shell as it is ... my z4 is an old one from 1963, and there is some brassing, albeit this isn't a bad thing at all. i'll give it a thought, anyway.

Is it not simpler to use a tripod bush strap?

By the way, if I'm still allowed on this thread no you know I want to get rid of the Zorki4, obviously I've got the same problem on the Zorki1: no strap lugs. Because I dislike drilling in this beauty, I went to a shoe repair man and asked him to modify the everready case of the Zorki1, to make the part with the lens cover detachable. So now I can leave this at home and carry the Zorki1 on straps and yet not annoyed by the everready case.

cheers vic,
i have not yet heard of a private thread here on rff, so you're certainly welcome.
i have already modified the case into a half case with a detachable upper part -- i'm even considering making one of really good leather for my zorki myself, seeing how high the prices usually for such an accessory are -- and i've got virtually unlimited access to leather, hehe.
cheers,
t.

hey, they're only Zorkis
My 2cents ~ I use ERCs modified to half-cases on everything. When I bought my first FSU, it was a Zorki.4 w/o ears. Well, I just HAD TO HAVE stap lugs, so I bought a 3M. Then came the Z.3 w/lugs, an older 4 w/lugs, the 5 etc. In the midst of all this - bang, bang, bang came 3 Zorki.1s with no lugs. Carrying them got me used to the half-case setup.
To me, the half-case is more secure and getting the camera in and out of it to place on the shelf or desk is easier on my old fingers than fiddling with strap rings. On the occasional whim of using a strap I've got one of Gordy's Great Straps that does the trick nicely.
