I have just added a Zorki 4 to my small collection of RF cameras and while it is generally good the viewfinder is dreadful and the RF spot invisible. Is it just accumulated muck and can it be cleaned or do I have a bigger problem with it>
In comparison the Werra, Yashica and Bessamatic have superb viewfinders.

I guess it can be cleaned, you just have to take off the top. isn't a major operation

A cleaning wouldn't hurt. If the RF patch is still dim, you might need a new beamsplitter mirror.

I'm currenty selling a Z4 and a z5, I've posted images of the viewfinder/rangefinder window for both in the post

The patch is visible, but its not well defined, how it would be on an M-whatever or a bessa.
Z4 wouldnt have a beam splitting mirror, as it uses a two prizms glued together, it is possible for the cement to deteriorate overtime and with significant abuse. Dont know what the solution to such a problem would be.

Some progress, the original post was before I found the dioptre lever - now I can almost tell what the camera is pointing at. There does seem to be some internal muck so I have found some basic dismantling info and will see what is inside.
Just out of interest I compared it with a friends old Leica 111 and the Zorki viewfinder is much inferior. I also tried his Leica MP which was something of a revelation. He is running a film through his old Leica for me, half with the Jupiter f2 lens and half with his f2 Summar, the comparison should be interesting
