Zuiko 35-105 anyone ?

How come there is so little talk about this lens ? I had it for more then 15 years, until it was stolen in Italy with my OM-2, and have since bought another one, looking and feeling like new.

I always liked it .. Am I the only one ? In that case, what's wrong with me ?

I love mine. It's my "standard lens" for general 35mm photography. Very sharp, contrasty, and very low distortion. A best kept secret among Zuikos IMHO.
 
Can't say I have tried this lens.

It would be great if you can share some of your pictures here from that lens.

Ok, I will, but it will take some time, as I have none of those scanned, and at the moment, my own PC (that has the scanner connected) is down :(.
 
Can't say anything about the Zuiko, but the Canon FD F/3.5 equivalent is an awesome lens! One of the first that proved that zoom didn't equate to compromised image quality.
 
Interesting...
will have to look into that lens as I have always used standard lenses. Would love to see some pics from this lens as well.
(sigh... I feel some GAS developing :))

How large is that lens? I know both Fujica and Olympus tried to keep the size of their lenses small. I have the Vivitar Series 1 35-85mm varifocal. A nice lens but a little large.
 
One of the nice things about Zuiko lenses is the wide range of focal lengths (21mm to 200mm IIRC, and several zooms) are covered by just two filter sizes, 49mm and 55mm. In answer to an earlier post, I don't think there was more than one version of the 35-105mm. Some rumours say it was made by Cosina, but whatever, it's a good lens!

Richard, if you really want, 21mm to 200mm could be covered by one filter size, 49mm! The 135/3.5 and 200/5 both take 49mm filters.

And thanks for answering my earlier question, I was probably thinking of the 35-70mm zoom, of which there were several iterations.
 
Hi Nikku - yes, you're right of course! It's only the extreme ends of the scale that used anything bigger than 55mm. In most medium range focal lengths there's a choice of an economical lens with a 49mm thread, or a fast one with a 55mm. I think there were three 35-70 zooms?

this lens has bit of a cult following over at fredmiranda.com on the alt gear board. along the lines of the contax 35-70/3.4, i think.
 
I can confirm that this is one great lens, and a very well kept secret in OM Zuiko lineup. Very sharp and contrasty, perfect for the summer family vacation slides. The macro feature is also very practical especially when you aren't carrying a dedicated macro lens with you (like on a vacation). Add a 24/2.8 for sceneries and 50/1.4 for evening and you're equipped.

(i know this is an older thread, I'm replying just for future reference)

I can confirm there are 2 versions of the lens. I had the first version (serial starting 1xx xxx) and then bought the second version (serial starting 5xx xxx). Apart from slightly different lengths of the rubber part, the most important difference is that the second version keeps your aperture constant throughout the zoom range when you close it to f4.5 or smaller. The first generation aperture changes when you zoom.
 
I had one back in the day and was very pleased with it, got another recently but all the grease inside has dried up and it need to go to the doctor.
 
I bought one of these new in 1990 and never really got on with it. I found it a bit on the soft side although, of course, I may just have had a bad example. I gave up on Zuiko zooms after this and stuck with the excellent primes.
 
Interesting: I have this lens, but have never tried it. Perhaps now that I am ready to run a film through my OM1n....
