Hello all,

I am not sure how to post this; there is no wanted section that I can find in the classifeds section.

I eprayed for a "new" glass section for a Jup 3 as insurance against a lens I may buy with thrid-rate glass -- so now I am seeking a Jup - 3 lens.

I guess I should have mentioned that mine needs to be a screw mount.

From what I have seen, from the Jupiter point of view, you as a Contax/Kiev user are in much better shape than us screwy folks.

This thread is really sad; there is such a demand for the J-3. I don't even know if it is what I want. For now I have an Zukio 1.4 and a Yashica Lynx 14 for the purpose. I am mostly interested is a soft flat effect the J-3 seems to give.

Maybe some black magic can be employed to get some of the more rabid "collectors" to put their various Jupiter lenses on the market.

I am suspecting that my Industar 61 will become my lens of choice. For now I am still in stuck in the hyper-reality of digital. Though I did take a nice color picture w/ my old Leica pancake 35 screwed to my Bessa R with 800 kodak generic film.

Here is a link to the big picture in case anyone is curious: http://thinman.com/images/leica_lenses_old//stone_urn_n_ivy_big.JPG

If you notice there is an old stone urn that looks great. This is important to me because I have been photographing a forgotten cemetery somewhere in NYC, and I want to go back there when all the leaves have fallen.

If you get one with bad glass then you might swap the glass out of a similar vintage Kiev mount J3? Some one may have done this already and confirm...

The other week someone made a comment about a lens and I saw a J-3 on ebay with a starting bid of 49.00 with less than 10 hours left & no bids. I posted a link to it on here. After the bid was up I noticed no one bid on it at all. I can't believe it didn't sell. I payed quite a bit for mine so I am going to keep it. Good luck with the find.

dvdtechcameras have a selection of J-3's for sale. http://www.dvdtechcameras.com/lens/leica/lca6.htm The cheapest price is $60USD without postage, all of them early 1960's models, with a couple at $70. I just bought one myself (for using of course), but it only came today so no reports on how it works. The focusing is smooth and the aperture is very smooth indeed.

I am ready to order, and I see that they allow for returns, but I am wondering about the glass quality. I am trying to see how their "Mint, Exc++, Exc+, etc" system reflects that.

The 85mm J-9's look good too. I know a little about the black vs. silver finishes for the J-3, but not the J-9. I wonder if it is the same.

It seems that they will be all sold out soon...

Here are two photos sent to me by a collector in Thunder Bay, Ontario:

Hi John! I would give you my Jupiter 3 scew mount, but the lens has to be readjusted. I can`t get sharp exposures with it at f 16 either. So if you want it, pm me!
Regards
george
