Hi,
New to the Forum. I hope this is the best place to post this inquiry!!
I am the proud owner of not one, three Kiev 5s. The readily available information reiterates time and time again, that there is no inner helical; therefore the standard 50mm lens (Jup 8 and Helios) use the external Helical. This is clear than, that inner helical lens wil NOT work on the KLiev 5.
What about the other way around?
Can anyone say with certainty that a Kiev or Helios Jupiter 8 intended for the outer Helical will work on other regular Kiev/Contax mounts?
I have been hesitant to try for fear of it getting locked on or otherwise damaged.

I‘ve heard that you can’t mount the Kiev 5s 50mm on a regular Kiev but I don’t know why. Wish I had a 5 to try it myself.Hi,

Used to have a 5. Interesting beast of a camera! Used a Cosina Voigtlander 35/2.5 SC on it for a while too. Should have kept that lens when I sold the camera, alas!

because the internal parts of the lens rest against the internal camera mount parts.I‘ve heard that you can’t mount the Kiev 5s 50mm on a regular Kiev but I don’t know why. Wish I had a 5 to try it myself.

Thanks for the varied replies... It would seem any outer Helical lens would work on all outer Helicals? So it seems the consensus is ..won't work! Brambling seems to explain why. I guess trying to re-invent the past is a task for fools. So they covered building without an internal helical...tthey provided new 50mm "kit" lens to compensate was it sooo hard to keep them compatible?!?
Thank you all for the insight!

All the other lenses worked fine. I had the J12. J9, J11 & the SC lens when I owned the Kiev 5. The only pity was not being able to use the Helios-103 as it remains a seriously sweet lens.

The external mount on the K5 is similar to the external mount on other Kyiv cameras, but installing the native Kyiv 5 “Jupiter-8NB” 2.0/50 or “Helios-94” 1.8/50 lens on other Kyiv cameras interferes with the internal mount. and its installation without any modifications is impossible. Thanks for the varied replies...
