How much have you spent on photo equipment in the past 10 years?

Low north of $10K. But its all concentrated in the last three years. I blame it all on digital, and on film RFs. Which is fair, because that's where all the money went. 'Till then (early 2004), the remaining 7 years had me spend only on film and developing. My XA2, OM-20 and OM-4T kept me fine (though I wasn't taking all that many photos). And I'd had that gear for considerably longer than 7 years!
And I'm still not done. I need a new printer. But after that, I'm done. DONE, I tell you. Done. Except for the "need" that will arise to update the dSLR. And there are a couple of lenses I lust after. I still haven't found the right pocket-sized film camera (though I have enough of 'em). There are fixed-lens RFs I haven't tried yet. An MP is a really nice camera. Medium format looms, if the shop can fix the Mamiya..... What might happen with digital RFs in the next few years?

oh... I thought I am pretty conservative with regard to spending on gear - but still, I spent ~$2000 last 5 years. Some of $$ are recoverable though - if I sell OM4ti, 16mm fisheye, 18mm and tamron 300mm f2.8. But I don't :>

Why do people get so silly about this? If you can't afford it, then don't buy it and if you can afford it then buy it, use it, and don't whine. And all the men here scared of what your wife would say if she knew how much you spend...ugh. If you can afford it and your wife is a b-tch about it, then find one who isn't, and if you're hiding your spending from her because you can't afford it then shame on you. My fiance (who I live with so we're basically married) doesn't care how much I spend on photography because I spend my money, not hers, and I still pay my bills. Likewise I don't tell her she can't spend all her money on music and movies (her inerests...being entertained).
I have spent about $20,000. Mostly because I am a commercial photographer as well as a fine artist so I have had to buy equipment for work that I wouldn't have bought or needed if I was a hobbyist or even just a professional fine artist. For my fine art stuff, I use my Mamiya 645 super and my OM-4T that I got in high school 16 years ago. I have bought a couple cheap used lenses for these but most of my purchases have been digital stuff and studio equipment for my paying work.

If I include dedicated photo printer, film scanner, tripod, camera bags, filters etc. then I am surely bumped up to the bottom half of the 5-10k grouping...yikes!

Is the total for oneself ? Or for a business ? For a business, much of the cost is written off as a necessary expense so doesn't have quite the same effect.
I was still a little surprised that I have spent over $1000 (equivalent) personally. That was bumped up by traditional consumeables, a digi p+s, several FSU's and a couple of spare bodies for my ancient Contax slr stuff (because I realised my single 139Q wasn't going to last forever). Most of the core gear for the darkroom, and photo-stuff in general, is over fifteen years old, so was outside of the poll period.

I`m in the $10k to $15k bracket.......
......now if you would have said in the past 25 years I`d say take that times 2 or almost 3 that was back in the late 80`s and early 90`s when I was a hardcore collector/seller and still in the Army and the DM to $$$ was almost 4 to 1, I bought and sold 2 or 3 Leica`s every week

I second Tom's statement, and would also like to point out that if you buy one GOOD DSLR, one Good RF and a Good P&S, you've already put yourself in the 5-10k bracket.
For me the camera is a collection activity, a hobby, and work. Can't ask for better return on investment...

I don´t know and I don´t want to know. But I don´t regret a single Mark or Euro. It takes a long time of thinking about it before I buy and I never spent money I don´t have or do need for other things. I´m lucky, I know.

I really don't know because I just don't keep track beyond the "does this fit in my fun budget, yes or no" level. That said, I haven't acquired any new photo gear in a long time, at least a year. I'd love to have a view camera, but I can live without it.
