I think it works for DSLRs.. but a totally inelegant solution for the M8

If it is comfortable in use, its looks don't matter so much.

They are a pain in the neck for any camera. It makes it hard to put the camera down or in a bag - the strap grips your hand as it moves from the body. It is also makes the camera more bulky which I find annoying when placing in a bag.

looks great for a DSLR.....

I use Gordy's wrist strap and it works well.....not complicated...just a sturdy strap.

There is a rather less obtrusive variant called the 'Sling'. It seems a little more elegant and less likely to get in the way than alternatives posted here so far. I've never seen one however - anyone able to recommend or rubbish it?

I have tried both. The first one adds considerable weight to the camera and does not work very well because the upper attachment point is in the wrong place. The metal piece on the bottom adds weight and bulk. The leather strap is nice if it worked. It really doesn't.
I also have the Sling and it works far better. The center of balance is right and you can actually let the camera dangle from your finger tips because it grips your fingers like a chinese finger cuff. It add no weight or bulk.
Having said that I find I actually prefer the hand grip with neither as I can carry it easily hanging from my fingers and it adds something to holding the camera securely.
I hope this helps.

the wrist strap that completely disapears in use is luigi's.
i've tried them all and his is the most comfortable.
but a wrist strap is best used with a grip, perfect combo.

I love the Sling. I have one for my MP and my Contax G2.

I like my Gordy's strap but it's a bit small for my fat wrist. If it were about 3/4 of an inch longer it would be perfect for me. It's very well built and priced right!

I think that's big enough for a bear paw? How big is your hand?

I use the sling on my Hexar RF and like it.

I have a Sling from Lutz; I use it on a Bessa L- along with a longer string to carry the thing by when It needs it. For the Leicas, I use a shortish neck strap; it can ride my shoulder, (or my knee, if I'm sitting down) or I can drop it around my neck if need be. I wrap it around my wrist when shooting.
I use my left wrist, and carry the camera that way. When I lift the camera to my eye, my hand is on the lens barrel to focus- and my right hand, which is my dominant hand, is free to do other things- like shake hands or pick things up.

I have the Slings on all my M's they work fine and are not obtrusive and easy to pack camera away quickly. I asked for wider finger circumference measurements on my last order as i found the looser grip was more flexible in use. That pic with the M6 makes the grip to appear much more awkward than it is in actual use.

I've got about 11 of them and they are awesome. 'Use them on all my mid/ lg. size RFs ond SLRs. They're kinda' overkill on the compact RFs.

I used the Sling. Hated it as my fingers always got stuck in it. That may sound like a good thing (camera won't fall off) but it shucks when I need my hand and have to struggle for a minute to get my fingers out. Also, I never was able to hold the camera comfortably.
On my old film Eos 3000 I had a similar band strap. It worked well but it posed problems when putting the camera in a bag. It takes up space and always got in the way when I tried to get the camera out. One plus was that I could just pull the camera out of the bag from that strap.
I'm now using Gordy's straps. I've never had it so good. They're sturdy, feel comfortable, the o-ring makes sure the strap is snug, and adding a carabiner lets you hook the camera to your belt when you need to tinkle. A quick flick of the wrist and the camera is back safely in your hand.

As an alternative to the Sling for my small RFs, I use the Optech wrist strap that is made out of foam rubber and has a plastic slide you can make the part around your wrist as tight as you like.

Op/Tech is good. I've been using their neck straps for at least a decade by now.
That wrist strap sounds very similar to the Gordy wrist straps, except for the foam (Gordon's are leather).

Strap that comes with the M8 is still the best. Leaves your hands free to carry the M8 around your neck. Greater flexibility.
