A member on LUF showed his rally leather Gordy hand strap that Gordy matched to the member's rally leather Luigi half-case with a built-in grip. It was very elegant looking.
I tried putting my Canon hand strap on my M8 without a grip and found it too awkward. I do use a hand strap all the time with my XTi and find it really handy to hold that way. The ergonomics of the M8 don't seem to lend themselves to a hand-strap. ymmv

I used a hand strap on my Canon 1Ds never put a neckstrap on the camera. So when I got the M8 I tried the handstrap rig shown in the picture -the upper attachment point as has been pointed out is wrong and the addition of the bottom plate just makes the whole thing an awkward kluge. I'd used the sling back when I had film M's but I find it also forces you to contort your hand into a rather unnatural postion and it's difficult to pull your hand out when you want to. However it's probably the better of the 2 solutions if you must have something along the lines of a handstrap.
I now have a Luigi case with the grip and a wide Luigi strap long enough to wear the camera across the chest. This works very well. Camera can't slip off your shoulder and the leather of the case with it's grip makes for a very comfortable secure hand position.

You needed a slightly larger size for your fingers.

Perhaps, yes, but I'm not going to find out now that I have my Gordy wrist straps.
