Live to geek...... Overcooled and Overclocked. PC's rock.

Well that's the plan
Cheers Chavo
I tried that plan, when I was researching "$OBJECT". However, overclocking gained very little performance increases, so I'm left with an over-"engineered" PC. Its destined lifespan was 2 years.

4.5 years later...

I run windows 2000 on desktop, windows xp sp2 on laptop as host system.
Have handfull of virtual machines: RedHat, LongHorn Server Core, LongHorn full, Windows 2003 server, Open SuSE/mono, Open BSD.

I believe I'll be switching to PClinuxOS on my new laptop while away at college.
I'll be keeping a windows partition for scanning and occasional gaming though.

Can't really tick the option that covers my situation. I'm using a PC (which itself runs under Windows XP), that's set up as an X-term on a Unix network..

I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo macbook Pro. So i dualboot with bootcamp. Mac OSX and Windows XP. I use Win XP for all of my Visual Effect work for school, etc and Mac for whenever I have free time to do whatever.

Currently running Ubuntu Linux "Feisty Fawn" 7.04 on my Acer notebook, 1 Gb of RAM, Sempron 3500+ and it's very smooth :)

Real men focus their lenses, develop their films and, of course, compile their kernels.

GNU/Linux (actually, Slackware 12) everywhere (office, home, laptop). Nothing else!

But I guess I'll have to give a try to JOE1951's setup.

I'm typing this on an XP machine while it also does a backup of my Sharp Zaurus SL-5500, which runs an embedded Linux (Debian) and Qtopia desktop; ROM is Sharp 3.10 for Zaurus. It's a way cool little box, but getting old in terms of applications being available. There are lots of apps, but a lot of the feeds are on dead servers. :(

Windows XP - because I am in our living room.
Now if I had been in the kitchen it would have been Mac OSX.
Oldest daughter's room Mac OSX.
Family room - Windows XP.
Our Bedroom - Windows XP.

XP at the present time, but I'm trying to get Vista going on my other laptop.

I'm shocked at all the Mac users here. It's definitely out of sync with the norm. It could be spurious-- sampling error, but I doubt it based on the numbers (133 to 94).

It could be due to Mac users being more willing to participate in the poll, and be "mavericks."

A previous poster also mentioned the apparent anomaly, vis a vis rangefinder users being "control freaks" and Mac users content to let the OS take care of many functions with out manual intervention.

Another way to look at it is the maverick angle, and also the reputation of Macs as being graphics oriented machines. Anyone interested in rangefinder cameras as a category, these days is a maverick. And Mac users tend to be also. Add the graphics angle, and the fact that many members tend to work in photography or graphics related professions, where they're more likely to use Macs than the general population, and that probably accounts for the correlation.

By the way, I'm a big iron (mainframe) bigot. My company is currently migrating workloads off of distributed unix servers, and onto a mainframe, using Linux.

So, hopefully in the future I will answer a poll such as this one as executing from a Linux instance running on an IBM z9 processor.

I have a 2004 15" PowerBook G4 that I use on occasion. But most of my work is done on a Windows XP machine. Next year I intend on upgrading to a 15" MacBook Pro as my sole computer.

Window XP Pro

Window XP Pro

I had a custom built Windows machine built a couple of years ago with raid array. It runs PhotoShop really fast.
