I have opportunity to obtain locally this monster lens for about 200-300$ (the seller is not sure yet, he bought it for his DSLR... 🙂 )... even despite the xtra-low price I'm not sure about it? It's a kind of a dream lens... but I'm not sure about the options:

* to buy it and ship it to USA for conversion (200$ more = 400$ + shipping both ways)
* buy a Canon 7s for around 200$
* find a mount and put it on Fed or something, Canonize the Fed (as Stephen said)
* trade it here? 😀

Is it possible to use it on R3A (due to the small RF length)?
 
I don't think you'll have any trouble recovering the money spent if you decide to sell it after converting it. From what I've read, it'll take quite some time to do the conversion so you might want to take that into account as well.

The focus accuracy might be a bit restraining, but OTOH the R3A has the longest EBL of all Bessas.

Me? I'd buy it straight away! 🙂

I'm not sure about investing in conversion... I'll think about Canon body when I make some money. 😀
 
Hi, yes is uppose its real because these guys often offer gear at an enourmous price! Silly! And they almost never sell something to such prices.For six months they are offering a Rollei 35RF Set for 1299$ !!
 
Get the lens ASAP!

Get a Canon 7 or 7s too. Great camera.

write me if you want to Canonize a FED. That's my camera on Gandy's site. It's also in my avatar. With a FED2 it is VERY precise. However it is not as easy as a Canon 7.

But Fed doesn't have a light meter... how low does Canon 7s meters light?

Is tempted and falls inmediately in it.
Do it. Later, either get a 7s or somethng else as a decent rear cap for your lens.

The lens shown in the ebay picture is the TV version which is NOT coupled to the r/f, indeed the picture of the back of the lens shows this to be the case. It can't be modified for M fitting, the attached should explain why. note position of r/f coupling, a fully circular rear element as shown in the ebay picture would make this impossible!!

While it is a TV lens it has been fully r/f coupled.

There are at least 2 places here in the US that will modify the mount to M-Leica and r/f couple it. I'm having a TV lens done by Ken Ruth..

That opium stuff is STILL good in the Far East as I can see by that price......

Buy, the lens, buy a Canon 7s - enjoy it, shoot it and if you don`t like it you can still sell them apart and pull $650 clear if it`s a RF lens
(TV lenses are the same but well slightly less desireable)
and a Canon 7s will sell too for a soild $500

So if you can buy the combo under $1,000 you`re still AHEAD of the game

and I`m not expert on prices, I`m just calling it from what I see the market doing NOW
(I see your in Croatia....but there`s alot of interested Canon Rangefinder people in Germany and Italy who I`m sure would buy it off your hands)

I sent my TV lens to Ken Ruth for modification to M-mount. He explained to me that he would modify the rear cell by notching it to original Canon specs and add the r/f coupling.

As for the lens on ebay I've seen one modified like it and it does in fact work. The difference is internal modification has to be done to work with the homemade coupling ring to insure proper coupling to the M r/f lever without contacting the rear cell..

Both methods work equally well..

Here is a photo I found of a Leica and Canon TV lens..

I think it is about EV2 or EV3 at asa100. It is a shutter speed priority meter. The Canon Museum site has the wrong meter info for the 7s. 🙁

Today I checked with the seller, and it's a TV version! What does it stand for, and can It be used on Canon 7?

He is asking 300$, I'm not sure anymore???

TV version refers to the mount - will not fit a Canon body. Can be
converted to M mount but not cheaply.

I recommend to look for a 50/1.2 instead. Gives you almost the same
speed and flat DOF, but is easier to handle, more general purpose
and way cheaper.
