Would you buy Leica sunglasses?

Seeing the Nikon sunglasses poll, and in view of the fact that Zeiss make a lot of lenses for glasses)...

Would you buy a pair of Leica sunglasses, on the assumption that they weren't more expensive than ones from Porsche and all the other luxury goods guys? And, of course, that they were cooool. 🙂

Bah! I seriously doubt the ability of Leica to compete. As we all know, its about the lenses, and the Zeiss line of glasses lenses for eyewear is so ridiculously good. I have 3 pairs, one pair of Tital 1.7 (crazy sharp, like the world is seen thru a 90AA with unsharp masking) and 2 pairs of Punktal 1.6, all with same frames, but one with the Umbra sunglass coatings, yes, Prescription Zeiss Sunglasses. All have the Super ET coatings, a multi-coating like the *T or Rollei HFT coatings, which is one of the greatest things, I clean my main set at least twice a day (lens cleaning tissue and Zeiss spray) and after 3 years the coatings are as new. The glass line is difficult to get in the US, but if you want the very finest in facial optics, Zeiss is it. Beats Hoya, Seiko and puts that plastic LensCr*ppers to shame.

I didn't know Zeiss made eyewear, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised. However, while I'm pretty obsessive about keeping my eyeglasses clean, Noserider's efforts sound like more than I'd want to do.

Zeiss make prescription lenses. It's on their website www.zeiss.com.

The ones I like the sound of are their 'Business' lenses optimized for computer work and meetings, but not suitable for distance vision or driving.

A retro looking t-shirt with a leica logo is doable.. branded sunglasses where the brand has nothing to do with glasses? that's dorky..

It's like carrying around a tote bag with the "Geico" logo on it that you got for free at the Geico booth.. something cheap about it...

Well, if they made a monocle, I would buy it is a heartbeat - you could say it is a single lens reflex.

I'd buy them if the top frames were brass, rather than zinc. They'd also have to be built in Germany. A black finish that aged gracefully would also be required, but not black chrome.
I'd really like the Leica name to be engraved on them too, in a nice script. Finally, they'd have to handle a 35mm angle of view, without having an additional pair of spectacles mounted on them. Of course, they would be devoid of flare.

An optional device called a Leicafit would help me put them on quickly, using my left hand. Later, a man called Tom would probably produce an improved version.

The serial number would probably start at 1,000,000, thus making them more desirable.

After several decades, a website called Sun Shader Forum would be launched to celebrate their use and Specs Quest would sell small cases for them at low cost.

Their users would be eclectic, companionable, supportive, at times truculent and always joined by a common cause.
