Diopter for M3?

I think that the thread on the M3 viewfinder is different to that of the current M cameras. I had an M3 for a brief time whch I returned because it had a problem, and I had to exchange the diopter as well. I don't know if all the M3s are like that. IIRC, the diameter was the same as the current ones, but the thread was different.

Thanks Roland and John. I too remember something about the M3 being different than later m's, but I can't remember the details. I'm hoping someone in the forum tried the Hong Kong model on an M3. Stu

I received mine today, from Hong Kong, so this post should be somewhat fortuitous. They did state it will fit the M6,M7 etc. They did not say M2, M3 or M4-P. It of course does, and very well I might add.

The diopter fits my M2 and M4-P. It is really very nice, I'd suggest it over the Leitz which is pricier. Do it!

In the light of my comment above and others, it seems that there might be two different threads on M3s of different ages. Sorry I can't be more definite, but I distincly remember having to exchange the diopter that fitted the M3 when I got an M6. I'll see if I have a record of the serial number of the M3.

M2

M2

I bought a current model Leitz dioptre eyepeice for my 1960 M2 and it fits perfectly.

Ernst

Any other experience with the HK diopter? I'm tempted to buy one (I can't afford the Leica diopter correction lens), because of my bad sight. I won't use it for street picture, but I do need one (with maginfier) for close portrait.

Marc, I am somewhat near sighted. It was a pain using glasses. I bought the HK diopter and I love using it. I keep my glasses on and take them off if I think I'm going to take a shot. Using the viewfinder with the diopter corrects my vision perfectly. It is very well made and shipping from HK to USA was only 3 days. Buy it. Stu
