long exposures

...I was sitting outside last night, looking at the stars and wondered how long of an exposure you have tried with the R-D1 is. I realise that the extend of the exposure will be determined by the battery, but I have not tried to see how long that will last. Has anyone tried astro-p or exposures in the minutes? I tried a 6 min. exposure on my ex-NIKON D100 (same sensor) but have not played with the EPSON yet.

I'm curious to hear also. I've done some serious night photography for my Leica nad I'd like to hear how the Epson holds up.

I think I will charge up the battery tonight and try it myself if we have a nice clear night here in Toronto.

IIRC, the longest exposures I've tried with the R-D1 one are in the single digit minutes. Certainly not longer than 10 minutes. Noise can get rather rampant.

Taken in the Alpes in January at around 01.20 AM with the ZM 35/2. Exposure time was about 5 Minutes and 20 seconds. Pretty good for a non astro camera (not the scene itself, I just wanted to test quality at long exposure). The movement of the stars is visible. The only 'problem' is that the camera again took 5 Minutes for pixel correction.
