Uploading To the Gallery - Best Time?

Why do I put my images in the Gallery? I like to get feedback from all the photographers here. It's helpful to read the comments and find out if you're going in the right direction. It's like a full time portfolio review!
However, lately it seems like I'm not getting any hits in my gallery. Maybe it's the increase in membership diluting things, but I used to get lots of hits when I uploaded new stuff and got lots of great feedback right away.
Now you can hear the crickets chirping. I've tried uploading at various times of the day and week, but it always seems like my stuff gets buried under an avalanche of images right after I post.
So, does anyone else feel the same? Anyone discover a good time to upload for the best exposure?
 
Hey same here. It hapens to me as well. I dont get hardly any on my photographs... i just put a ton of photos into my San Francisco gallery and i dont have any comments on any of them.

I had a quick browse in your gallery - some nice looking shots! I'll have a better look in a bit.

I posted images up here when I first joined but the lack of comments and a real dislike of the gallery interface (plus some problems in error messages and telling me limits have been reached....after one image?) have left me cold on the image galleries here. I now mostly use Flickr. Easy to join different groups based on film, cameras, lenses, type of photos, etc. and the ease in which to post the image once and then "attach" it to as many groups as you want really increases exposure and to people with similar interests along the lines of the groups. Also easy to get a bit of back-and-forth going and develop friendly relationships and easy to watch those "friends" or contacts when they post images too.

I posted two images this morning on Flickr and got about 9 comments today alone on those images and about another 8 more on other images as people saw those images and it "spilled over" into them viewing some of my other ones.

This site really pales in terms of that kind of exposure.

Heh, even on flickr i dont seem to get that many comments. I honestly dont know how so many people are able to get 100+ comments. Especially when I've seen photos with that ammount of comments and they really arnt anything spectacular. They are nice but nothing amazingly good.

Not saying my photos are amazing either, but sometimes I would like to get at least 9 comments in a week about a photo and they have... none.

I've done some browsing through your rff gallery too dave. You really have some great shots. Love the panoramic shots such as the country auction, etc. Definately have some nice compositions my friend! 😀
 
I also get comments very rarely. Even some of my favourite shots have 0 comments. I think it has also something to do with one's popularity on the site, not only with quality of the photos.
 
In addition to the above, I think that the "Picture of the Week" thread has affected the number of comments by providing another way to express admiration and interest. Whilst a mention is deeply flattering, I think a comment is always worth more.

But - in fairness - this sort of hiatus has happened before - a couple of years ago Jan Normandale virtually kept the gallery going single-handed and brought about a remarkable revival of interest through sheer selfless effort and encouragement. As Jan's example reminds us, the best way to develop a culture of commenting is simply to comment - and not just on pictures by people we know. There is amazing work being produced and it's criminal if it goes unnoticed.

For me, it doesn't have anything to do with popularity or commenting on photos of people I know. Although I have found people who's style I really like and am more inclined to find words to say about their new photos.

I suppose it is apathy really, I like looking in the gallery but I sometimes wonder whether it is right for me to comment "cool photo! love the tones" seven times in a row.

I might see many photos which are nice but I don't have any words more complicated to say about them. And don't want to "troll" as it were. If this thinking is incorrect, let's make it clear here and I'll happily change my ways.

The user interface is another issue, I hate it.

PS Just scrolled up and I recognise all the names of the posters so far, I have enjoyed all of your galleries in the past - keep it up!
 
Hey Kully, I know what you mean about running out of things to say. It's hard to write an in-depth critique about every good shot - especially when there is so many! I think a little smiley face or just a "nice shot" comment goes along way to makin the photographer feel like their work is getting noticed.
A lot of photography forums have gear heads that outnumber the shooters but I think may people at RFF are really interested in each others' work. I fell like I'm missing out on a lot of good stuff myself even though I try to visit the gallery daily.
I tried Flickr but I didn't like their privacy setup among other things and deleted my account. I like the look of the RFF gallery but some more tagging and sharing features would be nice and maybe a way to bookmark certain users' galleries.
 
I spend quite a bit of time browsing the gallery - it's rare to have a day where there isn't at least one outstanding shots - as well as many that are 'just good'.

I think people should feel OK just to leave a single word comment - no need for an in-depth review - just a note to say 'saw it, liked it'.

I have precisely one photo on Flickr and it has attracted a series of comments from the same person demanding to know why I named the image the way I did and dont I think something more like 'some bland, see it say it' name would be better. I don't think I'll be adding any more...
 
Lately I've been getting a number of comments on the Top Ten (12) gallery, which in my case is populated from photos I already had on line. I think having that featured section helps to get people to look at it.

Also, putting the gallery in the sig seems to help.

With 50-some thousand images in the gallery (I think), it's hard to focus any attention on any of them.

Oh, and personally I prefer the gallery look and feel here to Flickr. This one is clean and the emphasis is on the image. Flickr, to me, anyway, is awkward and busy.
 
Funny how things catch the eye. While scanning the index I read,;
"Uploading to the gallery- Best time?......................26 Minutes ago"
Maybe it's just my odd sense of humour. Ignore me and continue.
