Case options

Firstly hello all, I've just purchased a ZM with the 50 Planar and still haven't run my first roll (of XP2) off yet but I have a question about cases.

Robert White sells a case which they state is good for lenses upto 50mm, and I'm aware of (and love the look of) Luigi's cases (but at what a price!).

What other hard case options are there to protect my limited edition ZI? I have no other lenses yet but may go above 50mm.

I bought a Luigi full case for my ZI, but found that the top of the case was not well secured and would frequently come off the bottom part of the case when it was not snapped shut It also would not take anything larger than 50mm. I stopped using the whole case and just use the bottom portion for the body (Luigi sells it as his half case) and now I love it (it makes using the camera an almost sensual experience). If I could do it over again I would still go with Luigi but just get the half case and spare the expense for the whole.
Zeiss also sells a case made specifically for the camera; I have not seen it.
Stephen Gandy of Cameraquest.com is now selling a line of Chinese made cases which are much cheaper but I know nothing about them either.

The leather case sold by Zeiss works well up to 50mm, with mounted sun shade.
Since the front is removeable, you could use it with longer lenses then as well.
I would opt for that solution.

i use a luigi half case for winter shooting. very well made and just beautiful.

I have a Zeiss ZI full case and I am very pleased with it.
It is big enough to take all the ZM lenses other than the 15mm and the 85mm.
It is $135 at PopFlash. I just could not bring myself to spend the money on a Luigi case.
The top part is well secured but comes off if one wants a half case.
So, my recommendation goes for the Zeiss case.

A Luigi case is a substancial initial investment, but then again, so is a good camera. I have never regretted spending money on a Luigi half case and strap, they seem to have gotten even better feeling and more beautiful with age and use.

Why winter, only, because that would rule me out. No winters in Florida.

i prefer the feel of a caseless camera but our winters are extremely cold.
when shooting in winter i wear fingerless gloves and touching bare metal is painful after a few minutes, the case prevents that.

I am VERY concerned for your possible problems with the FULL case for ZM !

May you better explain me what happens, please ? Of course, and despite
the disappointing Italian customs fees (and problems), I am ready to FIX any
possible defects, or even, if necessary, to exchange your case with a new one.

now I remember, winter.....that's the thing with snow and ice, yes a case is a definite plus. My ZI has the Zeiss sidegrip which certainly works well in the warmer climate.
