So, if I understood correctly the M-mount is uncoupled? And you use somekind of digital split-image to focus? Sounds strange..
But It's nice to have competition on the field. And that new digital F sounds amazing too! That 12mp noiseless full-frame monochrome sensor on a Nikon SP body would be my dream. : )
true or not,
just the rumor will be giving Leica and Zeiss nightmares.

I love how they refer to it as the "low end" camera.

an M mount 50mm f1.4 millenium Nikkor lens will fit this Nikon digital rangefinder just fine.
I hope Nikon makes this lens in M mount.

monochrome sensors! *drool* the modular slr sounds very interesting, not that i'm going to get one.
hottt. i bet it'll also have parallax and field-of-view correction.
i don't quite get how the digital rangefinder spot works. does it appear in the direct view finder, or on the rear lcd?
The direct view finder has an overlaid internal QXGA LCD which displays variable frame lines (thus allowing zoom lenses)

This is very intriguing....I'm very interested in seeing what Nikon is up to and will actually bring to market.

Expect sellers who haven't been able to get a Leica dealership to talk this up. The rest of us will be sensible enough to wait and see.

I await nikons offerings with serious anticipation

So, if I read this correctly, it's an electronic viewfinder? No optical VF?

sounds pretty slick.... a high quality EVF camera taking something like M lenses is just what I've been looking out for. I think it would be an unfortunate decision to farm the entire effort out to Cosina, though, Cosina's efforts to date have been neat but not up to the bar for what could be the flagship for a new type of digital camera. If doing it at Nikon were to raise the price bar from $3000 to $5000 I think it would be worth it.

it has a "direct view finder", not an evf! w00t!
maybe they got the term from roger hicks?

Sounds interesting but the fatal flaw to me is that it's doesn't use the original Nikon rangefinder S-mount lenses I have. If I was in the market to get a digital rangefinder and all new glass, I'd have an M8 already.

It does sound interesting. I'm not sure about the VF with the screen overlay; somehow I have trouble believing that the focus accuracy would be adequate. However, I did just look it up on Wikipedia and QXGA is pretty fine: 2048×1536.
Like the Epson RD-2, this is still just a rumour... So, we'll wait and see.

Unfortunately it doesn't sound right to me because the engineer (the source of the information) will have signed a non-disclosure contract for the development work. He can look forwards to losing his job at the very least.
On the other hand, he may have been specifically asked to spread some vague information for marketing purposes - following the idea that a "vapourware product" is almost as good as a real one in stopping people buying stuff from your competitors.....

Here's the part that doesn't make sense.
It says that the RF will use the D3 chip and the M mount.
How is Nikon getting around all the problems there are with a full frame chip and current RF / Leica lenses?
This isn't a problem that is exclusive to Leica, it's a matter of physics. For the most part RF lenses are too close to the sensor and the rays strike the receptor wells at too shallow an angle, causing all sorts of issues. Thus the need for the offset micro lenses on a x1.3 chip in the M8.
Doesn't sound right to me. At least the part that is will use the D3 chip. Maybe it's a x1.5 or x1.3 version of that chip.
But what is good news is a 5D equivalent of the D3 for about $3000. If they put some weathersealing on it I'll buy one. Got a pile of Nikkors and Zeiss ZF glass sitting here ready to go. This would be a very clever move by Nikon. By sharing the D3 chip with other cameras in their lineup, they can take advantage of the economics of scale.

Will it take LTM or Nikkor AI/ AIS, or heaven forbid, AF only lenses? Obviously, I have a lot of AI and AIS lenses.
