Hi all,
I've been considering to buy a 28mm lens in M-mount or LTM, since I don't really like external viewfinders and my M6 has the 28mm framelines. I only have Voigtlander lenses, so I browsed the CameraQuest price ilst and found out that both Voigtlander 28mm lenses are now discontinued. This naturally left me wondering if Cosina is going to introduce new 28mm lenses, since there is now quite a gap in their lens lineup. Or is the idea that the new Cosina-made Zeiss 28mm lens complements the Voigtlander lenses?
Does anyone have any information on the matter? I'm just wondering if I should wait and see before rushing to any purchase, or even try to find a Zeiss at a decent price...

I'm selling a 28/2.8 elmarit, while it's a little more then the CV and zeiss lenses it's an incredible performer without an absurd price.

Cosina-Voigtlander will likely introduce a 28mm lens or two in M mount within the next year or so, but these will just as likely have the same glass as the current lenses, with a slightly different barrel and the M mount- along with a higher price tag. Since they no longer make a thread mount camera body, they seem to be phasing out their thread mount lenses and switching to M mounts. They still have plenty of the LTM lenses to sell, so it'll probably be a little while before we see the announcements of the M versions. Both the CV 28mm lenses are very highly regarded, and I would simply buy one now, rather than wait for the M version. The thread mount lenses are a great bargain, and have greater compatability via M-mount adapters. Get them while you can.
The Zeiss ZM lenses are excellent, too, and are a good option, as are 2nd hand Leica lenses- or you could spring for the new Elmarit-M which is relatively affordable, for a new Leica lens (if you can find one available); but again, my advice is to get one of the the CV LTM lenses while you can.

I can't speak to Zeiss or Leica or Canon 28s, but I have the CV 28/3.5 (now discontinued), and think it's a great lens, particularly for street and landscape. It is very small, but is very solidly constructed, which makes it a great travel lens. I bought mine on evilbay earlier this year, new and unused and for a good price. I agree w/ Drew's advice above.
A number of forum members have this lens and have done excellent work w/ it. I believe RayPA is one. You might check out his gallery.

Hrm speaking of Zeiss ZM, if I already have a CV 21/4 color skopar, Canon 50mm f/1.8 (chrome), and Jupiter-11 135/4 all in LTM on my Bessa T (via adapter), what ZM lens could I look at

if you don't need the speed the cv 3.5 is a gem.
small, heavy for it's size, really well built and sharp!
what's not to like?

you have 21/50/135 now?
i'd look at a nice 35mm lens first, then a 28.

Out of curiousity, do you think theres that large of a gap to be filled between the 21 and 50? to me a 35 and 28 seem too close together to make a difference ( I used to havea Jupiter-12 35mm f/2.8, a Zeiss Biogon copy). Though I'd probably be in the market for another 35, but I'd probably have to trade something for it (a Fed-2A with a collapsible 50 isn't exactly worth a CV 35mm lens even if its slower.)

I have the CV 28mm Ultron which I use with an adapter on an M6 body. It is an excellent lens. Here are some examples of picturs taken with it (others in my gallery)...

look at my sig karl. i like them close.
there is a huge difference between 21 and 50. also btwn 25, 35 and 50.
even with 25 and 28 there is a difference. 28 doesn't seem sooo wide while 25 gives just that bit more than a 28 but does not distort like the 21.
you need to play with them all and see which best fits for you though.

21-50? That's a big gap. I had a 21 and sold it for a 24 which I find a more usable focal length. My line-up is 24, 35, 50.

Um... the 21 does not distort... you're confusing distortion (which the 21/4 has very little of) with perspective. Though if I did get an inbetweener It'd be either a 28 or 35.

which is it?
the 21 does not distort or it distorts a very little?
my point is, while the 25 is only a touch wider than a 28, it seems to me to make photos with a significantly different look to them. if i had to choose between the 2, i would go with a 25.

To me it doesn't do it enough to be considered noticible, only time its noticible when its a clear perspective shift of the camera.

Thanks to everybody for their suggestions. I guess the current Voigtlander models are then the right way to go. This cleared up the issue considerably.
