She Used A Leica!

Fascinating piece in the NYT today about Capa's friend. I'd never heard of her before and appreciate the Times running the story. There's a shot of her in the article which clearly shows her using a Leica. Wasn't Capa supposedly a Contax man?

This is the first time I've heard that "Robert Capa" was a pseudonym. Of course, he was far from the only one who did that. Since there was long a "Cornell Capa", was that also a changed name?

One has to wonder how many cases there are of talent discovered long after the demise of the persons involved. The rather famous case of Mike Disfarmer in the midwest has been told several times. Someone who remained almost anonymous during their lifetime suddenly emerges as a 'discovered talent', or at least so think some 'critics' or someone who wants to publicize something they discovered. That usually means a new book.

I was aware that this exhibit was coming up, so I appreciate the review--and the slide show that accompanies it.

Gerda Taro supposedly was Capa's "true love" and is mentioned in his biographies. However little was known about her until now. I'm looking forward to the release of the exhibit catalog to see all the photos and to read her bio.

I too will go see this exhibit. I went to the HCB exhibit "Scrapbook" at the ICP in April of this year and came away marvelling at the work of Martin Munkacsi. Who knows what will happen this time? 🙂 BTW the catalog of the Munkacsi seems to be sold out, at Amazon at least.
