CV 25mm M mount lens thoughts

My M8 arrived Friday and I am quite tickled about it. Only now I have to rethink my entire lens line up.

I previously sold my CV 25 f4 LTM. On my RD-1 to worked to 37mm, and my 21 works to about 31mm. I really like the 35mm field of view but the 21 has rangefinder coupling.

The question is, has anyone tried the other CV 25mm, the M mount lens? Thoughts?

Seems awfully slow to me, but the 28mm seems rather large. and I'd like something small to enable the M to fit in my pocket. My old 35mm Summicron was perfect size wise, but on the M8 it's almost a 50mm

Yes, the CV25mm f4 is great on the M8. Very sharp, compact, close focussing, well built. The slow max aperture never seems to bother me.

I took my M8 to Alaska on a cruise, too; just got back. I really like this lens, too, but you'll have to remember that the 25mm frame lines are the outside ones, not the inside ones (that's 35mm) like I did more than once, but that 's a user issue, not a lens issue.

I'm looking at coding this lens; fortunately, I have a machine shop at home, so most likely will be able to do something to 6-bit code it (yes, I know that there is a screw in the the way on this lens, but it's not where a black dot goes, IIRC).

I removed the lens mount on my 25p and had John Milich mill the recesses for coding in the mount. I coded it as a Leica 24 and use it with a B+W IR/UV cut filter - works just fine.
 
No there's not a dot where the screw is but the M8 thinks the screw is a dot - fill it with white paint or filler and it works fine.

hmmm who milled the lens for you :) I would LOVE to have my lenses done. Can you post or email me a contact to do that?

John Milich in NYC did the mount milling. He also sells milled, LTM adapters for screw mount lenses. Contact him at: jm@milich.com

I just ordered my 25P. I will be getting my jeweller's screwdriver out to have the mount sent off to John for milling as soon as it gets here.
 
So tempted to buy this lens.. but already have the screw mount version and so far it does the job. Been tempted to bite the bullet and live with the Zeiss ZM 25mm with its 28mm frame marks for the speed and coupled focusing
 
Lens arrived on Monday and the flange shipped out to John on Tuesday. Should have it back by next Tuesday (I hope). The 25P has coupled focusing. It's the 25mm Snapshot Skopar (LTM) that is uncoupled. I'm pretty sure John can modify your Zeiss flange to bring up the right framelines. He did that for my 40mm Nokton. Now it brings up the 35mm brightlines instead of the 50's.

How much trouble did you have in removing the lens mount? I thought there was some "Lock-tite" chemical to keep the mount screws tight. Did you have to dissolve this substane to remove the mount? Is the new mount on the lens tight, meaning when you re-mounted it, did you have to use this "Lock-tight" chemical?
 
I´ve so far ended up with an approach that is just a little bit different. I bought the CV 21/4 (M-coupled) and will be getting the ZM 28 tomorrow. The latter will do the job as my "normal" lens on the M8.

I just love the results from the 21 so far, even though I don´t have a viewfinder for it yet, so my abilities as a guessworker are improving rapidly. :)

I hope I will be able to stick with this approach and not start wavering around in my accustomed GAS-inspired ways ... A 25 sounds ... :)

No trouble at all. There was no locktite on the screws in my 25p and I did not apply any when I remounted the lens. Seems tight and works just fine.
 
One bit of advice: invest in a decent set of jeweller's screwdrivers. I use this one to great success:
