Hi everyone!

A friend of my moms knew I was into photography so they gave her this camera to give to me, little did I know it was going to be a RF! I shoot with a Mamiya 6 and that's all the RF experience I have, so I don't really know what I have here. Aside from needing a nice cleaning, the glass seems really nice and the inside is perfect. I'd like to give it a try. I believe it's a Canon IVSB but the E-P doesn't appear in photos I saw of others. Here are some photos, any information would be great :) thankyou

A very nice camera. I have one myself. Does it have the canon or serenar 50mm f1.8? This is the usual standard lens. These cmaeras are solidly built. If all is well with it you will find it gives good service and great results.

It's a great solidly built little camera that is alot of fun. Most likely the shutter speeds are going to be off (at the very least) so if you plan on using it much I'd get it cla'd. It does look like a IVSB, the EP means that it was sold on a US military base in occupied Japan if I remember correctly, there are plenty of much more qualified people here that could comment on that though. And that is definetly the 50 1.8, you could tell even if you couldn't read the front of the lens because the 1.9's were collapsible (and from what I've heard not nearly as good of quality) Have fun with it, it's a whole differant experience then shooting a Mamiya.

Great gift! If it has the large chrome rail for the dedicated flash at the left (difficult to see in your pictures) it should be the IVSb. This is a great find. That lens is pretty good, fully deserving its name "Japanese Summicron". It is at least of equal quality as its Leica brethren IIIc/f and one might argue that the combined RF/VF with the three step enlarging VF is a clear improvement over the Leica's.
EP indeed indicates that the camera was sold via overseas military stores (Exchange Posts). I have one with the same lens which needs a CLA for the slow speeds.
Nice set of matching filters and hood also!

Nice Gift!

Yes, this appears to be a Canon IVSb about 1953/54 a US Army PX camera <EP>

I have (2) Canon IIF2`s and they are similar to this camera and make "great" users

That f1.8 50mm Canon is a nice little lens "Japanese Summicron" that`s the first time I heard that nickname hehehehehe! I love the lens, it`s great for Black N White and I`ve shot crossprocessing with it as well, reminded me more of Leitz Summitar in a way, but nonetheless a really kool gift and makes it even more workable with the Waltz hood and filters........

I wish a neighbor`s friend or someone would hand over some tired looking old Grey Leica with a K stamped on it, something from Grandfathers attic ;)

wow thanks for the help!...Hopefully within a week or so I can test it out and upload a few...If i remember correctly, my old boss had a lens that looked similar to this in our used lens case. I'm going to head over there today and see what it is :) thanks again!

get a new neck strap for it.
leather straps of that vintage are already rotted out, but look ok at a glance.

good tip, that would be awful if it snapped. I checked out the lens I had seen a long time ago and it's the 135mm...Hopefully i'll get to use it a bit

Yes, the shutter speed dial spins one way when winding, the other way when firing. The pointer is only in the right place when cocked.

Well I dropped it off at a local repair shop yesterday and they said they'd call within a week, got home today and they had left a message that it was done :) He just did a basic cleaning and lubing on it which fixed the shutter and curtain opening. Everything seems to work fine except the slow shutter speeds. He said he'd have to send it out for that and it might be expensive, so I'm going to run a roll through it and then send it out to someone recomended through here. I'll post some tomorrow, thanks to everyone who replied!
