i was wondering what is best for kiev mechanism when you not using it for a longer period. i leave them uncocked of course, but does it matter which speed is set. and if it matter is it better to be set on slow speeds , fast speeds or even b?

I guess 1/125 can't be wrong but who knows, it sure won't damage the mechanics.

In an uncocked camera, no springs are under tension. I should imagine the position of the dial is of no consequence.

Almost true. There's a degree of tension in the shutter curtain springs even when the shutter is uncocked. However, there's nothing you can do about it and it is at its minimum. It makes no difference what speed the dial is set to, as you say.payasam said:In an uncocked camera, no springs are under tension. I should imagine the position of the dial is of no consequence.

I would think a faster speed would be better, as it doesn't seem to wind up much. But I don't think it matters - spring rates don't change with time and constant pressure, so the timing would not go out due to some kind of strain on the spring. The rest of the parts can get gummy, but that would happen any time the shutter wasn't worked. I think it's more important to exercise the shutter occasionally than worry about where the shutter is set.
