Sure we love cameras, but some people actually look at pictures too ....

I am looking for one to four volunteers to promote the monthly salons, best 10 pics, My pics section etc. Your task would be to come up and agree upon new ideas, new projects, and to help remind the gear heads that cameras can take pics too !

The moderators and myself are open to ideas. The best way? I don't know. But I do know the mods and myself are way too busy to give image promo the attention the subject deserves.

Happy to help out - I spend most of my time in the galleries anyway - but am away a lot (all of November and January is current plan) so should only be thought of as backup if needed...
And I'll add my vote for Memphis - a very active uploader of great images - can't think of better qualifications than that :)

Can these good people look into the weekly 'Gallery Picks' thread too?

It's in the same spirit of promoting excellence in photography at RFF but does not always attract a lot of traffic.

I have also submitted several times suggestions for the critique forum. It is a good place to share ideas. I suggested to have an extrernal reviewer added to the list of the five people who submit images for critique. It was tried a few times.

I've submitted several ideas to promote the Salon some months ago, Stephen/Joe, remember?

so do you want to volunteer?

this thread is also a good place to discuss image promo ideas.

I like the idea. I would love to volunteer as a way to get me to pay more attention to the Gallery. I need to. My problem is time as with a lot of others here.

I think you have some great volunteers already. If you don't get more, I will be happy to do what I can as I like the idea. I just can't devote a lot of time right now, and for the next couple or three months.

Com'on guys and gals. Volunteer!!

Could you reinstate the random gallery images on the front page?

I could, but the problem is that it slows down the site way too much.

That is why they were removed from the front page. So that is a no go.

I'm actively involved in two other film related endeavours, wife, family, friends, work and then a couple of charities.

Here's my contribution... check RayPA's old critique thread and his thread on photographers. Both got good responses and could be the basis for further investigation or discussion by the "new" project managers.

Internal promotion(here at RFF for us members) or external promotion?
Would it be possible to build something into the site that takes you through the gallery on your way to somewhere else?
For example, if one is looking at the "new posts" page and picks a post to go read, when you click on that post, you are first taken to a random image in the gallery?
And if putting a random image slows things down too much how about just a "random image" button/link?
Don't know enough of the mechanics of the site software to know if either of these ideas are "doable". Just a couple of quick thoughts.

THat was a good thing. It's what drove me here at first. This site was directed at photography more then anything else.

100% with you!

Would it be possible to have two front pages- one that's faster (the current one), and one that could be bookmarked and contains the random gallery images? I'm not savvy with the web stuff, so this is probably not possible.
Cheers,
Mike

random front page images translate into a terribly slow site.
we have tried it, it does not work.
