Jupiter 12 Iny or Outy

Jupiter -12's lens assembly screws in and out making me think the screwed in selection makes it easier to find a back cap to protect the rear element. Is this true, and that I should use the lens in the screwed in configuration with most of the assembly inside the camera body?

It doesn't move much. Mine has an M mount adapter screwed on, with a rear cap for a 21mm (a deep one, got off Ebay). Fits fine.

I think fedka.com has rear caps for the J12.

Lost permanent outy at large?

Mine moves a total of 5.5mm from inny to outy. The lens.
