I just had a look at James Lagers book and the M3 shows equal amounts above and below the serial number and I believe the on the German ones the bottom of the M3 starts at the same level as the serial number. I don't think I should post a photo from his book, so that is the best I can describe it. I hope I am right.

I think the discussion here should be why someone would pay this much for a plain old regular production M3. So what if it's EX+? I've seen mint in box, never touched by an ungloved hand M3s go for much less. If it was a factory black M3 in the same condition I might understand it. Not that I agree with it, mind you. Leicas are working machines, not collectors items to sit in a safe. That's what Canadian Maple Leafs are for. 😀
