Hy,
I'm an owner of M4 and i'm looking for a 35 mm lens. I'm considering to buy one of these:

VC Ultron 35/1.7
Canon 35/1.5
Summicron 35/2 (maube third version, cheaper than 4Th).
biogon ZM 35/2

any suggerence?
regards

It doesn't matter. If you don't like it, you can always sell the lens and get another. In any case, there's enough material on these lenses you can Google and then make up your own mind.

I've got the ZM 35 - I like it - it's not as small as the Summicrons but it's got a nice look to it.

Xavi,

If you have the cash, the ZI is said to be world class. The CV 35/1.7 is a fine lens but for the money you might look at the CV 40/1.4 and have it tweaked to bring up the 35mm frame lines (a simple operation).

I have a 35mm 'Cron and love it. Another one to add to your list is a Nikkor 35/1.8. Today my 'Cron sits in the closet and I use the 40/1.4.

A lot depends upon what look you are going for and what atributes are important (speed vs size, color, etc.).

If you go to Erwin Puts site, you will be able to read the freshly released initial appraisal of the new Leica Summarit lenses. Well, the punch line is, the Summarit line is supposed to be "not perfect" (not as good as Summicron) but good enough in Leica standards, and with an "acceptable" price.
Well, my point of view is, that the Zeiss lenses, not only have a lower price than the Summarits, but are actually better than Summicrons - "better" being as always a bit subjective, but concretely being related to an all-round vote regarding how these lenses draw in all circumstances, at all distances and with various types of film. I think, if I never had known a ZM lens, I'd probably be raving about Leica's lenses, but once you see a ZM drawing, it is difficult to look back: you get a pre ASPH drawing with the ASPH sharpness and the unique Zeiss 3d effect and flare resistance, and all this at 1/3rd of the price - where is the dilemma? There's no dilemma, the Zeiss lenses are the ones to beat, regardless the price advantage... The Biogon 35 is the obvious choice, unless you want to wait for a 35/1.2 Distagon, which , I believe, is round the corner.

Summicron version 3. Acceptable price, great rendering, high
flare resistance (better than v4), size matters. You need at
least one Summicron :)

Or like B^2 said, the CV 40/1.4.

Cheers,

Roland.

I have been reading a lot of user comments, and looking at a lot of image comparisons, for the new Summarits. So far, I have to say that I'd have no quality reservations whatsoever about buying one - they appear to be extremely good lenses both optically and mechanically.

I hope to test this out soon. I've got a 35mm Cron ASPH coming my way and I hope to see for myself the differences.

This way I can really have a good "go at it" with both lenses.

1) 35mm f2 UC-Hexanon
2) 35mm f2 ZM Biogon
3) 40mm f1.4 Nokton SC
4) 35mm f2 Summicron Third Version
5) 40mm f2 Rokkor

Somewhere on the Net I read an essay ref. the above lenses. All the lenses are good, including the VC 35mm 2.5. Size and quality of construction is important. But, in summation that writer, after evaluating the pluses (which were many) and the negatives (which were very few), stated: "You bought a Leica. Doesn't it desrve Leica glass?"

Thank's to everyone.
I own a G2 with differents lens and i'm very happy with them. I can't compare my 45/2, planar with my 50/2 'Cron because they are differents. Outdoors i preffer the planar and indoors i vote for the 'cron, but both are fantastic. But my 35/2 planar is not as good as the 45. But even that, the 35 planar is superb.
Is better the 35/2 biogon than the planar?
