Quality of photos with FED-2/Industar 26M 1:2,8 F=5 cm?

Hi Florian1234,
I think that most here would say that the FED2 is a really nice camera to use, when working and set up properly, and that the I26M can give very nice results, again when working properly. My I26M's are nice to use, the tabbed version is one of my favourites, but I also have one which is clearly in need of being setup properly or could be faulty.
So, it's more about getting good examples than anything else. Legendary Quality control and 50-odd years ageing have an effect and should be considered.
 
IMHO, if you're a newbie, you shouldn't be worried about lens quality. I've used the Industar 26M and it's a great lens for the price. You can start nitpicking about signatures, MTFs and Noctilux-angst later.

Thanks to both of you for the replies.

I bought one last week on ebay and now wait for it to arrive and then get started.

What kind of film should I use (for black/white photos) ? The easiest to get for me is the Agfa APX in either ISO 100 or 400.

First of all, welcome!

Agfa APX 100 is very nice.
In order to try out b&w, go for the Ilford XP2 - it can be developed in any minilab.

I have not tried out APX 400, but a lot of people say that APX 100 is much better.
XP2 (and Kodak BW 400 CN) are chromogenic films which are developed as colour films - so you can take them to Rossmann, Schlecker, dm, etc. - no problems.
The prints may have a slight colour cast, though.

many thanks so far. I hope the camera will arrive soon.

Do I have to consider any hints to put in the film or is it quite easy? Do the films fit in "out of the box"? (I already have an English manual for the FED-2 from the web thanks to this forum)
 
Thank you. Now I will provide myself with some films and get my first steps with the FED-2 done as soon as it will have arrived. (sorry if the tense form is wrong..)
 
Florian, the FED 2 taken only regular 35 mm film; and as Clarence said, there's no need to trim the leader. The general warning about FSU RF cameras is that shutter speed should not be changed unless the shutter is cocked.
 
the 26M Industar is a fine lens, it is the closest the soviets came to making an exact post war Zeiss 50mm f2.8 copy.
it produces that 3Dness to the photo image with the right amount of contrast,and a nice balance.
the other Industar that came close this was the I-22.
