Gallery Picks for Week ending Monday 26 November 2007

semrich:

Many thanks for the mention.

I am planning an office makeover which would include new photos on the wall and this one would certainly be one of my choices.

Shac - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73806&cat=fav - Ishey Angmo - Its all in the eyes for me with this one.

GrimRicho - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73671&cat=fav - Orange Car - I really admire both the image and the photographer that can see these kind of scenes. Unfortunately my eyes appear closed to such things and thats a shame.

Sitemistic - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73716&cat=fav - Waterplay - Capturing everything thats joyous about a happy childhood

Ruy - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73732&cat=fav - Kiss Me - Original, playful, well composed and witty.

Ruy - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73659&cat=fav - Remember - Simple yet sophisticated composition, beautiful lighting and an image that really began to draw me in the longer I viewed it. The picture becomes as much about you as the scene it depicts or the photographers views.

Claremontphoto (Jon) - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73942&cat=fav - Duarte Buys A Lottery Ticket - This image had a very similar effect on me as 'Remember' despite the obvious differences between them. It reminds me of some of Gregory Crewdson's pictures.

MarcA - http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=73967&cat=fav - 07057-037bis - The snappily titled work of a man who should be working for Magnum, well done Marc, I learned something new and it raised a smile...see MarcA's "What's Going On In The Gallery" if you're confused.

If I had to choose a favourite I'd be stumped as I love both Remember and Duarte Buys A Lottery Ticket, really good stuff. I'm now off to check out Ruy's gallery.

'Gregory Crewdson? Who's he?' I thought, and then Googled.

Thank you for that reference. I do like the cinema style posed photos and I enjoyed what I saw online this past hour or so.

I don't have the patience to do that sort of thing myself.

I'd describe many of my photos as 'Slice of Life'. It's just my friends and neighbors leading simple honest lives and being very photogenic along the way.

[Thank you for the mention.]

Apparently Gregory Crewdson has a team around him that would give a full on film crew a run for its money. I admire his vision and the end product is often quite stunning, I'd love to try something as staged and controlled as that but all of my friends would be far to reticent to join in!

It was the lighting and the perceived narrative in your image that I think made his images spring to mind. Thanks for sharing your photo, I've enjoyed it immensely.

The following selection of mine does not include images appearing at the gallery as posted on Monday26.

You are to be praised for pulling the trigger first, instead of loosing the moment in search of perfection, and for not self censoring this image afterwards, instead of loosing your heart.

I am speechless. This image overpowers my capacity to react with words.

Ok memphis, here you throw us a hard core bone of street photography. I cannot but laugh longly out of pleasure.
Should I start an in-depht "critique"? No, I pass, overwhelming image

Outstanding series! I can imagine that these series displayed in big size will be terrific. Perfect contents and perfect techique images !

Great image Lucian, not easy at all to make. Great too the interplay of tones, not just the composition.

sitemistic

High quality shot. Those eyes looking at the camera and the whole composition.

This is for me a master piece, against all technical odds. I will say I have not enough to pay with, to have such an image of my wife and daughter. Award wining!

It is not the building what matters, but what xpanded made out of it: an impressive 3D image

Great capture !, very pleasing composition done under stress.

Cheers,
Ruben
