Gallery Picks for Week ending Monday 26 November 2007

Thanks to all who gave me a nod ... and a special thanks to Jon for pushing this thread along. I think your efforts have been vindicated this week and I congratulate you on your determination to see it succeed. :)
 
I like it that we're talking about photos in here (and generally in the Gallery), not stuff.

It wasn't long ago that a great photo would appear and somebody would completely ignore the merits of the photo and ask something like 'Is that Tri X in Diafine?'

The worst ever was when somebody photographed a Gay Pride event. He wrote about how difficult it had been to push the boundaries of his normal life and go to the event and take photos. The very first comment was something like 'Is that a 35mm lens you were using?'.

An important lesson here perhaps? While many are happy to talk gear etc only here, which they have every right to do of course, those who wish to discuss imagery can do so in threads such as this and in the gallery. Maybe we'll be able to continue discussing some of the images listed above until the next weeks 'faves' are listed. Its down to us; but I would also like to echo Keith in praising Jon for his persistence with this thread.

Recently we've seen a lot more uploads to the Gallery. Today I had five pages showing on the '1 day' filter. It often used to be 3 pages or so. Perhaps we are becoming more image centric in a grass roots way.

Besides this thread stimulating images talk not gear talk BACK ALLEY's thread Shoot Out Saturday was a success last weekend, and he's considering making it a monthly event. Over there I saw a lot of image talk and cannot recall any gear talk.

I only went to buy sweet potatoes at the market and take a few photos perhaps, but I came back with this. (And some sweet potatoes and three photos)
 
I was struck by the portraits and environmental portraits I saw last week. Very powerful, a look into the subject as a person, not a photo of them.
