Blank Film

I just developed two rolls of HP5 in T-Max für 6.5 minutes at 20°C and they came out completely blank, like nothing was ever on them. How does this happen?

I did carry the film around in my bag a couple of weeks before developing now although. Could warmth have affected it? Or possibly a leak in the camera? (it was borrowed).

I'm very annoyed since I just got the entire kit of developing equipment and the first rolls screw up. I wanted to head to the dark room tomorrow. Great start.

Has this happened to anyone before?

Never happened to me. Could it be a camera malfunction? When you say blank, were they dark (contaminated with light) or clear (unexposed)?

No they are clear, only the ends are black. So it couldn't have been a light leak...

And no, I'm in London. Two factors eliminated already.

There isn't a problem with the developer if the film ends exposed properly, so my guess is a problem with the camera: are you sure the film advanced properly?

Sounds like the film advance to me.

No they are clear, only the ends are black.

If the ends are black then the films must have been developed (you should also check to see if the film numbers are there along the edge of the films). On the evidence so far, it sounds as if they were unexposed.

Shutter cap on, completely non-functioning shutter, or gross underexposure. Non-synced flash?

If 120 film, did you load it backwards? (emulsion side the wrong way in camera or Hasselblad magazine?)

Nothing to do with carrying it in your bag, heat or suchlike.

Yes, the numbering is on the film, frames 1,2,3,4,5... and Ilford HP5 PLUS. So i guess it was the advance... The film was never exposed. Thats great 🙂

No it was regular 35mm on a Nikon FM2. I'm pretty sure I managed to take the cap off. Probably misloaded and didn't realise.

After loading turn the rewind crank till it feels snug, then fire off the first frame. When you wind on that rewind crank needs to turn or the film isn't moving through the camera.
