My new MP anthracite

I had the opportunity to compare my MP Hammertone with the anthracite when it was first released. It may have been because I already owned the Hammertone and didn't want to let myself lust after another camera, but decided I liked the Hammertone better.

But I like the anthracite very much - it is as unique a finish for an M camera as the Hammertone and there are 400 fewer anthracites in existence.

Another interesting thing (at least to me) to note between them is that the engraving on the top covers on the two models is completely different, on slightly different locations of the topcover, and the anthracite has no engraving identifying it as a special edition other than the xxx/600 number on the hotshoe - which, BTW, the Hammertone does not have.

Thanks for sharing, it's better for that camera to be used than sitting idle at the store.

Even for a Leica limited edition, the paired 'cron 35 is special, specifically the barrel design. As a dedicated user of the classic Summaron 35/2.8, that retro ASPH is too cool. The camera is dumpster material. :) Just kidding, there!
 
There's an MP anthracite on display in the camera section at the Yodobashi Camera in Yokohama. They certainly aren't cheap, but I didn't realise they were so rare :eek:
 
I've never liked the hammertone finish I must admit ... I've owned a lot of toolboxes over the years with such a finish and it wouldn't work on a camera for me. :p

The anthracite though is a different kettle of fish ... it looks brilliant! :)
 
This is the first time I've seen or heard of anthracite - IT MIGHT THE ONLY BODY FINISH I'VE EVER SEEN in which a chrome or a black lens look equally good on.

A matter or personal opinon, of course!

That's for sure, take about 1/3 off that price, and thanks Jon you're making me feel much better about spending even that amount :rolleyes:

Had a chance to get out today on a temple and mountain/riverside walk near my home in Uji Japan with the dog, momigi (maple-leaf) season is wonderful this year. Put a roll of B&W and slide film through the camera, working great!, just have to get used to the diode light show again after being M6less for more than a few years :)
 
Not a bad price if that includes the Leicavit actually - about where it should be all things considered.

I like the look of your anthracite MP! I've not seen one for real, but in your picture, it does not look glossy, and I like that. I'd like it if my BP MP were less shiny, closer to an eggshell or satin finish. Actually I like the flat finish on my black chrome models. And that anthracite color really works for me! I don't believe I'd like the gray paint on some recent Leicas, and I can do without hammertone--but if an anthracite Leica came my way, I's probably buy it.
 
Back from the weekend away from the internet with a couple hours free before work and saw this tread I started many moons ago. Talk about a ‘blast from the past’… as someone pointed out this tread was started all of 7 years ago… time flies.

Well, the MP anthracite passed on to another’s hands. It was one of those camera/lenses that I now regret letting go (why is it that there are more and more of these ‘regrets’ pilling up recently?).

Less film use - digital and kids! - and feeling no need to accumulate more equipment than I actually put to good use. I still love the anthracite look. The last year or so I have thought about doing more film and was looking for another. I still feel it was a great camera with all the bells and whistles in style. The hand painted finish was just the right tone of grey, and in the sunlight had a hint of sparkle, chrome parts added a nice touch, and the top engravings along with the ‘Leicavit’ script were classic. Prices are much higher these days from what I’ve seen, and along with the [still less film] - digital and Kids! - I guess I’ll have to be content with the memory.

BTW: Although the finish IS beautiful, I felt it was not that durable. In my limited use, the black primer was starting to show on some of the edges, and this would eventually go through to brass. Yes, cameras are to use, but most of us don’t get a camera like this JUST because it makes photographs. My thoughts of what a gold-black-grey patina would actually look like on a well used camera, and the probable eventual sale - digital and kids! :eek: - had me thinking better to sell it sooner rather than later.
