I'm sure this has been asked before but is it true that Arista.EDU (from freestyle) and Fomapan are the same film? I ask because I am considering getting a bulk roll of arista at the great price of $23 if it is the same thing as the $34 bulk roll of Fomapan. If it isn't I guess I'll still to good old HP5.

As far as I know, yes, same film. I've come to like the EDU 100 in 120 and 4x5. You can't beat the price. Works good in Rodinal and HC 110. The 35mm and 4x5 have a clear base, the 120 has a blue base which makes staining developers difficult to use. 120 in DiXactol gives you nice green negatives.

Arista.Edu ULTRA is the rebadged Fomapan. Great stuff that I really enjoy shooting. Go for it! That L1 will thank you

To quote someone here:
Arista.edu = Forte
Arista.edu Ultra = Foma
Arista Pro = Ilford
Arista II = Agfa APX
I use the edu Ultra all the time, and it's decent, if not my favorite. but hey, it's really cheap.

Do a few test rolls before you buy a huge amount. I personally really disliked Arista EDU Ultra 100 and the 400 wasn't far behind. But that was just me. I still would try a test roll first. FishTek on this site has had some good results with AEU 100, look up his post for developers, times, agitation, temps. I have PMed him in the past, so maybe he would be a good place to start. Also, andrew (username) had a very bad experience with ADU 400, you might PM him, too. All of these experiences were with 35mm film, but I tried the 120 400 (AEU) and found it a little better but not worth the price difference.
