Sticky Label Removal

I've picked up quite a nice Olympus Trip that I have resealed this afternoon. It needed a bit of a clean - finger prints on the viewfinder and a quite tatty little oval Japanese PASSED label. Thought while I had the solvent out that I had used for removing the seals I would remove the label as well. The seal came off OK but there is a very distinctive mark on the satinised surface where it had been. And not just on the surface but now part of it.
Well that was disappointing!
So I resurrected the label and stuck it back on with a rubber based glue.
The effect isn't what I wanted but I guess that's the best compromise.
Is this just my bad luck?

I don't know what they make those label out of but they seem to stay on your camera even when you've taken them off...
The same label fell off my Mamiya m645 and even after cleaning the sticky residue you could tell it had been there...
One label was placed on the prism and the other on the body, both have a black paint finish...I need to check out any bodies with a chrome finish to see if it's doen the same to them...
I don't like removing them just for that reason...keep a soft towel handy and lightly polish/rub the camera to try and buff it out...

The problem is that something in the glue attacks the satin chrome and stains it rather than marks it. I haven't heard of a cure.

Does anyone have a time frame as to when they started with the "Passed" stickers???
I'm pretty sure my old Vivitar 400/sl had one...Parents bought it for me in 1976...

Lighter fluid-let it soak in for about 10-15 minutes. If you wait longer, the fluid evaporates and you gotta do it again.

Extra virgin olive oil.
It removed a dealer sticker for me

Sam, the stickers were around at least as early as 1975.

As usual Joe is right. Goo-gone removes them all without a trace and leaves that citrussy fresh smell in the air.

I tried 'lighter fuel', I tried 'goo gone', I tried a soft cloth, but as Kim says the satin chrome sometimes gets marked. All the goo is reasonably easy to remove, its what's left after that I don't like.
As the camera is a 'silver shutter button' job with a reasonably low number - 1832029 - I don't really want to fit another top. Maybe because it is an earlier Trip therein lies the problem - the sticker had been on too long.
Of course I can live with it, but I would rather have not had to.
