Hi!
First of all, Happy new year to all!
I recently bought a leica M6 classic, i'm really happy with this camera, works great
I'm waiting for some results!;)

Now I "need" two lens, a 28 & a 50mm lenses (after kully words, i know i have to take 50 nokton;))
What 28 is the best & cheap option? 28 rokkor? Cv ultron/skopar?
Many thanks guys!!

28 Skopar. If you can live with the speed it is the best bang for the buck and easiest to find.

Of course I just saw that Hexanon in the classifieds. That is very easy to find (until this one is sold) and excellent.

I have the Ultron and Skopar, both are top quality, you can't go wrong with either.

Hi Roland!
I just saw the hexanon..it looks great!! but unfortunately I can't afford it..:(
The Cv lenses are a great option but..Is the rokkor lens better than Cv ones?
I read some problems with rokkor glass..is it true?

Thanks Again!!

sinetsin, I realise you have already stated you don't want to stretch to the amount sought for the hexanon... I have one and I must say the build quality is top drawer. Maybe worth stretching to acquire?

Peter

If price is a concern, go for the Skopar, 'cause it's cheapest. If you can find a second-hand 28/3,5 Kobalux/Pasinon, they're great too, and probably even cheaper. Any modern design (post 1980 or so) is fine, i.e. not FSU (pre-WW2 Zeiss designs, assembled with varying degrees of care). My 28/1.9 Ultron is waiting to go in for an overhaul, because the focusing mount is sticky, but the image quality is still excellent.

Cheers,

R.

This was Ralph above Sinetsin :)

But I agree with him. CV 28/3.5 or 28/1.9, or Hex 28/2.8 are great
deals for the money. I myself use the two CV lenses.

The Rokkor is supposed to be very good, as good as the Elmarit of
the same period. But:

- most used Rokkors have coating issues ("white spots")
- the Rokkor will bring up 35mm framelines on your M6 (congrats, BTW)

BTW, the 50/2 M-Hex is a great lens, too - as good as a modern
Summicron, maybe more flare resistant. Maybe you want to
get 28/2.8 and 50/2 M-Hexanon, both ?

Best,

Roland.

The 28mm Rokkor is probably not the best option for you, since it was designed for the Minolta CLE, and it does not bring up the correct 28/90mm frameline set in the finders of other Leica M cameras. The 28mm Rokkor also has a common tendency to develop white spots in the cement in the front elements of the lens. See http://www.cameraquest.com/cle.htm .

I had a 28mm Hexanon-KM for a while and found it very good, though not quite up to the image quality of the Zeiss Biogon 28mm ZM or the Leica 28mm/2.8 ASPH. The Hexanon 28mm was a bit flare prone in night photography, but great for most other uses. I didn't like the fact that it lacked the focusing tab of the Leica wides or the bump of the Zeiss ZM's. A used Zeiss 28mm might be $500-600 used, and is a fantastic lens.

Can anyone explain to me what this meant?

Building on the developing theme some more, there are a lot of good options. But the CV lenses don't take second seat to any optically, they all are pretty good, differences are size and speed more than anything else.

Many thanks guy for all words!
I have to think what lens take....maybe i'll have to put in the classifieds some gear..(Bessa R & T..i think that if i sell the couple i'll change my mind!!) and then serch a Hexanon, zeiss or Cv lenses..

Many thanks Nico, i'll think about your offer!;)

Paul, if you don't understand my post, maybe i can tell you it in spanish.

Paul,

(1) Sinetsin has bought an M6
(2) He is happy with it
(3) The M6 is a film camera - "chimping" is ... not a feature.
(4) Therefore he is waiting for {contact sheet, enlargements, scans}.

That clear enough?

Get Hexanon and never look back - it's worth every penny and that way you will never have to worry about getting another 28mm lens. Well, unless you lose this one. I'd get a 50 Hex while at it - superb lenses at great prices! Ever since I got all my Hexanons - I'm GAS free! Well at least as far as 35mm gear goes.

I'll cast another vote for the hexanon if you can stretch to get it. Just a great lens. Amazing build.
I'll say, though, that I prefer the look of lenses that are a bit older - such as the 75 lux, 35 cron IV, etc.

But if you can deal with the 3.5 of the skopar, it's a neat little lens.

Leica lenses are terribly expensive in Poland so I decided to buy Skopar for my M3 and I think it was good decision for first step to 28mm world.
