I just picked up a Pentax MX and SMC-M 28mm f3.5 off craigslist. It's so small!
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement cap for the self-timer lever?

Congratulations.
There may be Pentax repairmen who have such items.
May I ask how much you paid for the MX?
I bought an MX very recently. I then added a pentax 40/2.8 pancake lens. It makes a beautiful small package.

$75 for both the MX and 28mm. Seems like a good deal.
I was tempted by the 40mm ( I used to have the DA 40mm on my K100D). So far I've resisted because the 28mm on the K100D equates to a 42mm lens. But I'm sure I'll justify it sometime.

Just keep an eye on eBay for Pentax MX. You will likely turn up a parts body in short order, which you should be able to buy for less than the new part if you could find that. Take a look at some of the other pentax cameras of the era and see if the cap looks the same.

I paid $100 for the MX and $100 for the 40mm/2.8.
You did well.

I like the picture of your camera's very much! Beautiful composition, especially with the background. What is it? Wood?
And yes, as I'm writing, I can't resist: I picked up an LX for myself the other day! After my Super A broke down, I was in doubt between the MX and the LX. By coincidence, I found one on a local auction site which I could get for 200 euro... a reasonable price compared to what you pay on ebay. It still needs a repair (sticky mirror), but that should not cost more than 50 euro combined with a basic CLA (found a local shop, bypassing the official Pentax representative which costs 175 euro at the minimum). Self-timer is not working, but that's used seldom anyway.

Nice. I think you love it. Just sold a 100mm f2.8 Takumar for 79.00. I't hard to find alot of lens action on Takumar K mount. Nice thing about MX the only thing you need a battery for is metering....I've always used and hand held anyway. By the way...I'm looking for a lens cap for a 17mm full frame fisheye Takumar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to a camera repair shop. Many camera's are never claimed, after they have got there "estamate" over the telephone. The have boxes of camera's to part out. If you can't find one..let me know. I'll get one for you

gb hill - thanks, I just emailed him.
vicmortelmans - it's a wood table. I love the texture of the wood as background on camera pictures.
Sam R - thanks, I'll let you know if I come across a 17mm fisheye takumar cap.

I had one a few years ago and loved it. If memory serves me correct, the 50mm f1.7 for these was rated extremely highly and well worth trying. Great color rendition and sharpness. http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/16753-thoughts-fa-50mm-1-7-a.html
The only complaint I had about my MX is that these are lightly built so you have to treat them with kid gloves a little. I recall one day carrying mine in an ever ready case slung over my shoulder and bumping it very lightly against a wall as I walked past. When I later took the camera out I was very surprised to see it having a ding in the side. But if you avoid my style of clumsiness you will find this will give a lot of pleasure. A lot of the Pentax M lenses were still pretty good too= and very nice in their diminutive styling.

Thanks to Pitxu, I now have a self-timer cover on the way. Thank you to everyone for the suggestions.

I had a pair of motorized MX bodies before I switched to Nikon back in the late 70s. They were great, and I really liked the Takumar glass. Sadly I had to switch because of Nikon's pro support, but I've often thought about getting another MX and a few lenses.

If it's too small to handle just get the Winder for it...
I have two black bodies with Winders and a chrome one without...all three have the 50mm 1.7 M lens...looking to sell the chrome one if anyone's looking to add to their collection...

Thanks for the info...I have a black body MX with a shutter curtain that sticks a bit...I would love to get it fixed even if I don't use it...it bugs me that it doesn't work as it should...

In use the unique 5 LED meter display of the MX is far more "needle-like"
than the more common 3 LED display of other cameras I have owned.
I am far more confident shooting Kodachrome in my Pentax MX
than I ever was using my FM, FM2n and Bessa R cameras.

I have an MX that is beat to !@#$. Still works great and I love it! BTW, the 50mm f1.7 is excellent. If you can find a 1.4, they're even better.

Pitxu - thanks for the part, I just received it.
Due to an inconsistent meter, the MX is off to be CLA'd by Eric at pentaxs.com.
