Well, I just got the MX back from Eric and it works flawlessly. It was only $70 (including shipping) to CLA and fix the meter. Now I'm off to shoot a roll of Tri-x.

MX is a super camera, just make sure all the foam seals are replaced as they tend to go "gooey"

Nice camera. I had one before, but parted with it. :bang:

Shooter of Film...
My little MX is in the shop getting the shutter fixed and new seals...they said it will be "Like New" when I get it back...
I'll send my black MX off to Eric soon, for CLA and to exchange the dented top cover with one I my buddy at the auto collision repair shop straightened and repainted. That shouldn't have been necessary, but my bad for making a poor eBay purchase.
My chrome MX is a sweet running little rig, and it has the fine f1.7 lens as well. Now it is, anyway; come to think on it, it too was an eBay problem child. "My friend's camera, I don't know anything about it. Shutter seems to work fine but I don't have a battery to check the meter." Well, my local tech rebuilt it, telling me it had obviously sat for some time with salt water pooled in the baseplate, corroding not only the electrical circuits but the lens mount as well. I took my chances with this auction and didn't luck out.

Doug - I didn't know the covers could be repaired. Is this easily done. I wold love my MX to have a little TLC - owned for 30 years and still working well.
Hi -- Well, I bought a used top cover off eBay that turned out to have had an impact on the flash shoe. Slightly wrinkled the prism housing on both sides of where the shoe mounts. If a person has the tools and skills, this soft brass can be brought back to the original shape. My friend sprayed just the prism area that he'd worked on, blending the paint skillfully and leaving the Pentax name at front and top deck markings intact.
The top cover that this will replace has a dent on the right rear corner near the wind lever, and due to the complex shape there, I figured it would be a tougher job to work on than the other one. Eric says he doesn't have "body working" skills, so just swapping out the tops will be a good solution.
I'd think minor dings or paint loss could be repaired pretty readily with some care and skill.

Wow, that's pretty cheap. The MX is great (I'm another who has one with a 40 pancake) - have a great time with itWell, I just got the MX back from Eric and it works flawlessly. It was only $70 (including shipping) to CLA and fix the meter. Now I'm off to shoot a roll of Tri-x.

Mine has the pancake also, although not an outstanding lens, it is very good.
Focussing ring could be larger if you use the correct Pentax hood with it though. I also have the soft real leather case and wrist strap, and with this it slips into a jacket pocket!!
I have to confess its the only SLR I ever loved!! I later bought the LX, but recently sold it as it had hardly been used. The focussing screens for the LX will fit the MX although I have been told that due to differences in the thickness, they can throw the focussing out with longer lenses.
