Has anyone here ever availed themselves of the SquareTrade warranties on eBay? Are they as good as they claim? Are they worth getting on expensive gear? I just bought a Mamiya 7II and am wondering if I should get one for it.

Thanks,
/T

Hello Tuolumne,

My name is Kord and I am the Customer Experience Manager for SquareTrade.

If you haven't yet, you may want to check out our customer testimonials (real customers, real claims) on Amazon. Just do a search for "SquareTrade Warranties."

Additionally, I can be reached directly at kordhelps@squaretrade.com with any questions or concerns.

I've been wondering the same thing since I was just offered a warranty from them on an eBay item I just purchased.

It looks like SquareTrade has a lot of fine print when it comes to actually having them pay up. Here's a couple I found that make them look a bit shady:

http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/102/RipOff0102543.htm
http://reviews.ebay.com/Squaretrade-Warrantech-Auto-Warranty-WARNING-SCAM_W0QQugidZ10000000001424643

And I've seen this Kord person trying to smooth things over, the Mercedes one is especially disturbing, using bone yard engines and replacement parts? That's unacceptable.

I'm not getting warm and fuzzies. They're probably great if you never have to invoke the warranty.

Google results seem to be overloaded with their own links and that may not be an accident but a way to block out most negative things.

And of course their own web site is going to contain great customer referrals, so those are useless, it's the independent reviews and referrals that will carry weight.

Hello Blankman,

Actually, the "Rip Off" report link you provided is from a 2004 posting by a user unhappy with our Online Dispute Resolution process - a separate service used almost exclusively by eBay buyers and sellers for the withdrawal of negative FB.

The second link refers to a 2006 posting regarding auto warranties. We never administered those contracts and have not offered auto warranties for almost 3 years now. The company that administered those plans was called WarranTech. In review the posting, the buyer seems to be relating frustration claiming against his warranty with the Warranty Administrator, WarranTech.

The SquareTrade Care Plan for electronics is offered and administered by SquareTrade alone.

Customer reviews - posted by buyers with our coverage who have actually been through our claims process can be found on Amazon, Yelp, and NexTag. I encourage you to review them (both negative and positive).

I'm curious about your "fine print" reference. Have you actually reviewed our contract? It's available on our site here:

http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/learn-more-warranty-buyer

Scroll down to read the plan summary or scroll down to view the entire contract.

I can't disagree that contract of this sort are generally long and pretty involved - however, comparatively speaking ours is on the short side (take a look at Best Buys!).

Regards,

Kord
