I wish Al would spend more time here. He's really a good source of info on Leicas :)

Anyway, happy birthday, Al! Hope you see this :)

Well, Al, you're getting an accolade from both ends of the rangefinder users spectrum.

Any chance we get to reap the benefits of your wisdom more often?

And, of course, have a very happy birthday!! :)

Thanks, everyone. I shamefully admit that I haven't been checking in here as often as I should. Lately my main efforts have been working on my blog which can be accessed at www.thepriceofsilver.blogspot.com, and looking for an attorney willing to take on AT&T and their TV commercials for ripping off one of my blog themes, the use of a toy monkey in many of the photos for the past two and a half years.

I'm still shooting about nothing but rangefinders, three M bodies, a CL, and a couple of Bessa bodies which are dedicated to use with the 15mm Voigtlander Heliar. In truth I'm mostly shooting with the 15mm. It's a fun lens! I wanted to get a Zeiss Hologon 35 years ago but the wife wouldn't let me. The $1,200 price tak back then was about equal to $5,000 today and we had babies to feed. Still, I wonder what my photography would be like today after 35 years of using a 15mm optic, or what I might have done with it then when my widest was a 19mm Canon on my Leicas.

Do we have any attornies here who'd like to take on AT&T on behalf of Monkette, the toy monkey that looks just like AT&T's imposter? We can establish a time line based on the blog postings. She's already started picking out a sports car and admiring designer clothes, a normal girl thing I guess ;-) And we're serious about this!

Hi Al,

I check your blog every now and again and am always rewarded with what I find there.

Don't be a stanger.

Was his birthday today, really? I have not forgotten preacherpop, but I don't have that good a memory to remember his birthday.

Whatever the case, heck, Happy Birthday, Al! :)

Yeah, funny ain't it.

He said he doesn't stop by often. ;)

So Al popped in to remind us us it was his birtday. :)

HAppy bday Al! I enjoy following your blog, good luck with the lawsuit, take 'em down!

No, based on Denis' original post, 11/9/04, today must not be Al's birthday. He probably ran across the thread in a google search or something and just stopped in to say hello.

Happy Birthday, Al. I should take my 15mm off of the R-D1 and stick it on the L where it belongs -- and take a self-portrait in honour of the occasion.

His birthday is in November. I just saw him when I was down in Miami. He's exactly like the Al Kaplan we all know. New Monkey with red hearts, and all I had was B&W film...

It was the ninth of November. I turned 65 and I'm giving the 15mm a daily workout. Today's pictures with Monkette depict the cute blonde at my favorite gas station, where they actually pump the gas for you. Years ago we called them "pump jockeys". Monkette sat on the edge of the truck bed, leaning back against the cab and watching the whole thing.

That's OK James. I had color in my camera when I shot a bunch of pix of that red & white valentine monkey, some alone and some with Monkette, over the past few days. She still needs a name. I'm thinking about maybe "Nikki Valentine".

Well, Al, I'll wish you an early happy birthday for the one coming up this year.

I used to talk with Al over on pnet before it went to hell.
