Jupiter-9 on Bessa R?

I have used a J-9 on my R2a successfully. You will find it easier with your R3a. With R2a I was finding that you could move the focus ring but not discern any difference looking at the RF patch. This was better on my M2.

The problem is the lens itself though - you need to look for one that has been checked for focus.

I use one on my Bessa R, and have always loved the results. Focusing at f/2 can be tricky -- the rangefinder length on the Bessa cameras (except the T) is too short to really accurately focus an 85mm f/2 lens. I would also recommend fedka.com; every lens I've bought from Yuri (including my Jupiter-9) has been a gem.

It is widely held that all LTM FSU lenses were made to a slightly different focal standard than the regular Leica standard. This can lead to a slight focus shift up close and at wide apertures. The shift would be more pronounced with a longer lens like the J-9. Personally, I haven't noticed it, but that may be due to sample variation between lenses. It would also depend on the type of shooting you're planning to do.

Based on my personal experiences, I would highly recommend the Jupiter-9. Just be aware that it is a notoriously difficult lens to find in 100% working order.

That's difficult - I can't remember the last time I used this lens :)

I like first one. Even it is not sharp, it has distinctive "retro" look - like echo from 70-ties. It remembers me photos of my father from old family album
