I'd be oh-so-tempted by the single coated one, just because I think it gives a slightly more classic/less contrasty look wide open. Also it's more of a niche lens and may hold it's value better...
Then again, it may not!

Im not sure. I'm still not sold on the real differences between the 40 nokton sc and mc... its hard for me to really see differences...

I know someone who tried both and according to him, the difference between them is very subtle, the SC has, as expected, slightly lower contrast. He also added that the SC gives a slightly crispier result.
Il will go for the MC, I like contrasty pics.

Voted SC.
Eaiser to add contrast than crispies after scanning.

Actually, you're right. I am not thinking properly this morning!

I had the S.C 40 and did not find much difference from other lenses. Most people who used both M.C and S.C report not being able to see any difference really. And I was so excited by the idea of an S.C lens but in the end it pretty much worked like most of my other lenses that I could tell. Nothing that would set it apart anyway as some kind of really cool, even subtle, S.C or more moderate contrast effect.
Mostly marketing hype.

had the SC 40 too, and borrowed my friend's MC version just for kicks.
Yup, can't really see the difference when scanned at the local lab.
However, shot some shots with techpan and pan F with both lenses, when scanned and printed 13x19 (3800), you DO see the difference, particularly with contrast and as mentioned in one of the earlier posts, a slightly more "crisp" look to the pictures churned out by the SC.
hope this helps.

that's probably sample variation. if the only thing different is the coating, all you'll see is a difference in flare resistance and veiling glare.

i have not made up my mind yet but am leaning towards the single coat.
there will always be the 35/2 biogon if i want a mc lens to shoot with.

Somewhere on here, some time ago, someone posted some comparisons with the two versions of the 40.
I recall a significant difference with color film; the SC version producing an old-fashioned look. Was it maybe Sockeyed who posted it?

Ok! Nokton classic 35... SC vs MC
For the people that will buy the Nokton classic 35mm f1.4...
Which one Single coating or Multiple coating?
Why?

May contain traces of nut
I yet have to see direct comparison shots from the 40 Nokton SC and MC to convince me that between these particular coatings there is a practical difference at all.

Has anyone used the Nokton SC along with a chromogenic film (e.g. XP2 Super)? I would guess that the characteristics of SC + XP2 result in a final image which is rather soft.
My personal experience is that the MC + XP2 combination works very well.
Anyhow - deciding first on which BW film to use (classic vs. chromogenic), then choosing the right Nokton seems a decent procedure to me...
My 10 cents' worth.

Are there any reports available where actual film/digital sensor has been exposed behind this lens?
I think any discussion of MC/SC or perhaps even purchase/no-purchase is redudant until then, no?

35mm f1.4 SC or MC?
It's a 40mm lens, not 35mm.

I often use the 40mm SC usually with color film and now and again with C41 mono and love it.
