Yashica Mat advance/shutter problem

Ok so I got a YashicaMat, the one with the 75mm 3.5 Lumaxar lens. I used it before and it worked great, but lately I have a problem with it.

The shutter wont fire anymore, also the self timer seems to be stuck all to way over waiting for the shutter button to be released. When I cranked the film advanced then back to cock the shutter (you can hear a sound that seems to be the shutter being cocked) then pushed the shutter button nothing happened. Sometimes you would hear a short buzz that sounded like the self timer trying to move. The shutter blades however remained closed. When I cranked the film advance the counter would count on and after 12 it would wind on and of course when it was on S it would wind until 1. But when I release the shutter button, nothing.


...I dont think I should try to disassemble the camera myself because I can take things apart but never put them back together, unless its a simple fix. But anyway, anyone have any ideas?

Guess what, the thing was on M. Great....

I tried giving the self timer a little help to get back, but its firmly stuck where it is, all the way cocked over.

Is my near mint yashicamat a brick? 🙁
 
Ok, giving the self timer a little bit more force it is now back in its resting non cocked position, unfortunately the shutter still wont fire, also the sync is set for X now. Possibly another problem caused because of the M setting?
 
Have a repair tech remove the self timer. It is jammed, blocking the shutter release. Pushing the lever back made sure it stays jammed.
 
The Yashica self timer doesn't take to being pushed on. There are two small fingers of metal that bend and jam very easy.
I've had to remove and attempt repair many times.
 
If your Yashicamat needs repairs, and you don't mind shipping it to the U.S. (Georgia), I can suggest repairperson Mark Hama. He did a great CLA job on my Mat-LM that had a sticky shutter. In fact, I believe Mr. Hama installed a pin at the MX Synchro-selector switch to prevent it from accidentally moving - and getting the shutter jammed, as yours did.
