I would think a fair number of photojournalists would be giving this camera a good look. A folder would make it that much easier to take on gear limited trips. I'd be all over this, especially if they made one with a 50.

You can always look for a Makina W67, a 6x7 folder with a 55mm lens brought to market in 1987. (I reckon Plaubel will still support those; two days ago a friend collected his 1960s Plaubel 5x7 view camera from factory repair.)

I said 35-40mm equivalent at f2.8.
80mm is about 38mm and at f3.5.

Half a stop off from my little dream. How cool is that?

The Plaubel Makinas are (or rather were) very nice as far as optics, etc., but they're rare & expensive, are "delicate geniuses" as far as reliability due to their design, fiddly to use (knob focusing), & can be difficult to get repaired (in the U.S. @ least). Not exactly what I would recommend to a photojournalist.

Since one of Fuji's flagship film camera products is/was the GX680, which is certainly not a very portable or easily hand-held camera, I can see how they might emphasize that point.

Though I hardly shoot film these days, I'd get one of these.

I've always preferred the manual, folding GS645 (which I have) to the giant-P-&-S GA645i (which I also have). But unfortunately the 645 format itself doesn't offer me much these days.

But 6x7 is still interesting... I have a Mamiya 7, but find it too bulky to travel with these days since I'm packing a small child along as well now. And before you say Plaubel Makina... I had one of those too, but it was too tempermental, particularly with the weakness of the scissor-links, and it was also surprisingly heavy.

Anyway, so a compact folding 6x7 with modern optics and an AE mode... very tempting indeed. And for practical, not "nostalgic", reasons...

Jonas: Yes, very practical. Though Philipp wants AF and other whizzers, which would be cool for him and probably others. Maybe we can convince Fuji to do another version alongside?

Certainly part of the appeal here is nostalgia. On the other hand, it's also an opportunity to improve on the old idea by using modern materials and methods.

So, an old idea done better.

I now have a picture of this camera as the background on my 2-21 inch LCD monitors here at work.
Prettys-up my cube nicely.

BTW, I actually do agree that they probably overdid the "retro" thing, particularly with the wind knob. A more modern implementation of the same concept would work for me too.

But then the retro-ness doesn't really bother me either... I mean, I like it in old cameras, why wouldn't I like it in a new one? Indeed, I'd be quite happy if my DSLR would "retro" itself into an F3HP-FX.
